Sample interview questions
I would begin by clarifying the prospect's business goals, current workflow, desired partnership channels, and success measures. I would then ask structured questions about their website or app environment, relevant platforms, data flows, API needs, implementation timeline, and technical stakeholders. I would document confirmed requirements, assumptions, risks, and open questions, then validate the summary with the prospect and Account Executive.
I would describe an API as a structured way for two systems to exchange information automatically. Using the prospect's use case, I would explain what data is sent, when it is sent, what business outcome it supports, and what their technical team must provide. I would avoid unnecessary jargon while being transparent about dependencies, security considerations, and implementation steps.
I would use discovery findings to focus the demonstration on the prospect's highest-priority workflows rather than presenting every feature. I would connect each workflow to a measurable business outcome, such as streamlining partner onboarding, tracking conversions, or managing affiliate relationships. I would reserve time for questions and close by confirming the technical next steps and any onboarding considerations.
I would acknowledge the request, gather enough context to understand the business impact, and avoid making unsupported commitments. I would explain what is available within the current scope, document the gap, and escalate the requirement to the appropriate technical or product resource. I would keep the Account Executive and prospect informed of the next step and expected follow-up.
I create concise documentation that separates confirmed requirements from assumptions and clearly identifies the proposed solution, integration dependencies, owners, risks, and open items. I use consistent terminology and include diagrams or workflow steps when they improve clarity. Before handoff, I review the document with relevant stakeholders to confirm accuracy and reduce onboarding surprises.
