The role, at a glance.
Twilio is seeking a senior individual contributor to lead financial diligence and deal economics for complex carrier supplier agreements and wholesale transactions across the Americas. The role evaluates pricing, margins, volume commitments, payment terms, regulatory fees, cash-flow exposure, and nonstandard commercial risks. It partners closely with Carrier Relations, Routing Operations, Finance leadership, and executive approval committees to structure financially sound agreements and establish approval guardrails. The manager will also improve deal-desk processes, translate controls into enterprise workflows, monitor post-signature performance, and coach senior analysts. Strong commercial-finance judgment, advanced modeling, stakeholder influence, and ideally telecommunications or CPaaS experience are central to success.

Sample interview questions
I would build a scenario-based model that incorporates committed and expected volumes, rate tiers, traffic mix, regulatory pass-through fees, payment terms, and implementation costs. I would test downside, base, and upside cases, quantify margin and cash-flow exposure, identify break-even points, and recommend negotiation guardrails such as volume flexibility, price protections, or termination rights.
I would clearly quantify the risk, explain the economic trade-offs in business terms, and present viable alternatives rather than simply rejecting the proposal. If the exception remained material, I would document the rationale, recommend mitigating conditions, and escalate through the appropriate approval process with a concise executive recommendation.
I would define standardized financial models, minimum diligence requirements, margin thresholds, approval tiers, exception criteria, and required documentation for assumptions and trade-offs. I would also embed workflow checkpoints in CRM or CLM systems, maintain a central record of commitments, and regularly review actual deal performance against underwriting assumptions.
I start with the decision requested, recommendation, financial impact, major risks, and required guardrails. Supporting model details are available in an appendix, but the executive summary should make the trade-offs, scenario outcomes, and consequences of delay or inaction immediately clear.
I would compare realized volumes, traffic mix, rates, margins, payment behavior, and operational outcomes against original deal assumptions. I would identify recurring variances and translate them into updated pricing assumptions, approval thresholds, contract language, and negotiation guidance for future transactions.

Join the team as Twilio’s next Carrier Deal Desk Manager, AMER (Commercial Finance).
About the job
Join the Finance team supporting carrier supplier negotiations and wholesale trading transactions. In this role, you will lead the financial assessment of complex AMER agreements, shape commercially sound deal structures, and deliver clear recommendations to executive decision-makers. While Carrier Relations leads the direct supplier negotiations, you will serve as their strategic Finance partner—owning the deal economics, mitigating financial risk, and ensuring approval quality.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Lead financial diligence for complex and high-value carrier agreements and relevant wholesale transactions across AMER, including those with nonstandard commercial structures. Evaluate pricing, margin, regulatory pass-through fees, commitments, payment terms, cash flow impacts, and other sources of financial exposure.
- Build and review deal models and scenarios that show how proposed terms perform under changes in volume, traffic mix, rates, and other key assumptions. Recommend structures and negotiation guardrails based on the analysis.
- Partner with Carrier Relations, Routing Operations, and other stakeholders to drive resolution of financial deal decisions, document trade-offs, and move deals through the appropriate approval path. Escalate material exceptions to executive committees with a clear recommendation.
- Establish and maintain financial guardrails, approval standards, and consistent deal analysis practices across regions. Partner with systems and business teams to translate these requirements into our CRM, CLM, or other enterprise workflow controls.
- Track key commitments and deal assumptions after signature, identify emerging exposure, and use actual performance to improve future deal decisions and guardrails.
- Identify recurring deal themes, risks, and opportunities, and translate them into practical improvements to policy, process, and commercial strategy.
- Coach senior analysts on modeling, financial judgment, and executive recommendations. Partner with the Finance Director to build and refine how the Carrier Deal Desk operates.
