Sample interview questions
I would begin with discovery of the customer’s workloads, recovery objectives, data volumes, compliance requirements, existing infrastructure, and operational constraints. I would then map those requirements to Veeam capabilities, define backup and recovery architecture, validate storage and network sizing, document assumptions, and present a phased implementation and test plan.
I establish clear scopes, milestones, owners, dependencies, and communication cadences for each engagement. I maintain a prioritized delivery plan, surface risks early, provide concise status reporting, and work with stakeholders to resolve conflicts before they affect delivery dates or customer expectations.
I review job configuration, repository performance, proxy and transport settings, network throughput, storage latency, source workload behavior, retention policies, and recent environmental changes. I use the findings to isolate the bottleneck, recommend a corrective action, validate results through testing, and document the outcome for the customer.
For the engineer, I provide the technical evidence, affected components, root cause hypothesis, and remediation steps. For the business stakeholder, I explain the operational impact, likelihood, recovery implications, options, cost or effort considerations, and the recommended decision in plain language.
I would provide configuration documentation, operational runbooks, recovery procedures, monitoring guidance, and knowledge-transfer sessions tailored to the customer’s administrators. I would also encourage recovery testing, confirm ownership of routine tasks, review outstanding risks, and ensure the customer knows when and how to engage Veeam support.
