Sample interview questions
I start by defining clear coverage, engagement, and escalation expectations between Account Directors and Sales Engineers. I then implement consistent discovery, demonstration, Proof of Value, and handoff frameworks supported by regular pipeline reviews and capability development plans. This creates better visibility while preserving room for engineers to apply judgment to complex opportunities.
I would align early with the account team on mission objectives, stakeholders, procurement constraints, and technical success criteria. I would lead a structured discovery process, map Recorded Future capabilities to the customer's operational workflows and security architecture, and establish a measurable Proof of Value plan. Throughout the engagement, I would ensure technical risks, integration needs, and executive communications are addressed proactively.
I use competency-based development plans that distinguish foundational product and discovery skills from advanced strategic selling and leadership capabilities. Newer engineers benefit from repeatable playbooks, observation, and coaching, while experienced engineers receive ownership of strategic initiatives and mentoring opportunities. Regular feedback, calibrated performance expectations, and visible career paths are essential.
I confirm that the customer has an urgent, measurable use case; a committed technical sponsor; access to the required data and stakeholders; and mutually agreed success criteria. I also validate implementation feasibility, integration dependencies, and a defined decision process before committing significant team resources. If these elements are missing, I work with sales to reset the engagement or establish the prerequisites.
I reserve direct involvement for strategic, high-risk, or high-learning-value opportunities where my presence can materially improve outcomes. At the same time, I use those engagements to coach engineers in real time and turn lessons into repeatable practices for the broader team. Delegation, clear operating rhythms, and data-driven prioritization allow me to remain hands-on without becoming a bottleneck.
