Sample interview questions
How would you diagnose a decline in P2P order completion rates in a specific market?

I would segment the decline by payment method, merchant cohort, order size, time period, and user type, then compare cancellations, response times, pricing spreads, liquidity, disputes, and fraud flags. I would validate findings with support and merchant feedback before prioritizing targeted actions such as merchant coaching, pricing adjustments, payment-method changes, or workflow controls.

What metrics would you use to assess the health of a P2P marketplace?

I would track active users, active merchants, available liquidity, spread competitiveness, order creation and completion rates, cancellation rates, response times, dispute rates, fraud losses, merchant concentration, and payment-method adoption. I would monitor both aggregate trends and market-level cohorts to identify operational issues early.

Describe how you would balance growth goals with compliance and fraud risk in P2P operations.

I would embed risk and compliance requirements into growth planning rather than treat them as downstream checks. This includes risk-based merchant vetting, transaction monitoring thresholds, clear escalation paths, controlled pilots for new payment methods, and regular reviews of fraud and dispute patterns alongside growth KPIs.

How would you improve merchant quality without reducing marketplace liquidity?

I would use a tiered merchant framework based on completion rate, response speed, dispute outcomes, liquidity contribution, and compliance history. High-performing merchants could receive incentives and expanded limits, while lower-performing merchants would receive coaching, monitoring, or proportionate restrictions rather than immediate broad removals.

How do you turn operational data into product improvements?

I would translate recurring customer or merchant pain points into quantified problem statements, supported by funnel data, operational metrics, and representative examples. I would align with product on expected impact, define success metrics before launch, and measure post-release results to refine the feature or rollout plan.
