Sample interview questions
How have you managed cost, schedule, and performance across a complex federal IT program?

I establish an integrated program baseline with measurable delivery milestones, staffing plans, budget controls, and performance indicators. I review variances regularly with workstream leads, document risks and dependencies early, and escalate decisions with clear options, impacts, and recommendations.

How would you build a productive relationship with a CMS Contracting Officer and COR?

I would maintain a consistent, transparent communication cadence, provide accurate status reporting, and ensure commitments, decisions, and action items are documented and tracked. I would tailor communications to their oversight needs while proactively raising risks before they affect contractual outcomes.

Describe your approach to managing a prime/subcontractor delivery relationship.

I align early on roles, interfaces, governance, deliverables, and escalation paths, then maintain shared visibility through recurring operational reviews. My approach is to be dependable and candid, resolving delivery issues collaboratively while protecting contractual obligations and program outcomes.

How do you apply Agile practices to operations and modernization work occurring simultaneously?

I use coordinated roadmaps and release plans to connect modernization objectives with operational commitments. Teams manage work through prioritized backlogs and sprint ceremonies, while program-level reporting tracks cross-team dependencies, service performance, release readiness, and risk.

What would you do if a critical dependency threatened a Medicare claims-processing milestone?

I would quickly validate the dependency, assess the operational and schedule impact, and convene the accountable technical and business stakeholders. I would present mitigation options such as sequencing changes, additional capacity, or a controlled workaround, then communicate the selected plan and monitor it through resolution.
