The role, at a glance.
Cribl is seeking a director-level product leader to define and grow the next wave of its security product portfolio beyond Cribl Detect. The role combines market assessment, customer discovery, investment recommendations, and end-to-end execution for new security capabilities. It requires deep security-operations expertise across SIEM, detection engineering, incident response, and adjacent areas such as SOAR, identity security, or AI security. The director will collaborate closely with engineering, go-to-market teams, technology partners, and enterprise security customers while building a product management team. This is a remote-first US role with occasional work outside standard hours due to distributed time zones.

Sample interview questions
I would begin with structured customer discovery across CISOs, SOC leaders, detection engineers, and analysts to identify urgent, repeated workflow problems. I would combine this evidence with market size, competitive differentiation, platform fit, technical feasibility, and monetization potential, then present a ranked build, partner, or buy recommendation with explicit assumptions and risks.
I would define platform-level product and technical principles early, including a shared data model, common identity and workflow concepts, integrated detections and alerts, and consistent administration. I would align engineering and design around end-to-end customer journeys and measure integration quality through adoption of cross-product workflows rather than standalone feature usage alone.
I would start with a narrowly defined, high-value customer problem and recruit design partners that match the target segment. After validating the problem and willingness to pay, I would define an MVP with measurable outcomes, run iterative pilots, and use feedback to refine the roadmap, packaging, and launch plan before scaling go-to-market investment.
I make the trade-offs explicit by grounding each option in customer impact, strategic fit, expected business value, delivery cost, and risk. I document the decision and assumptions, seek input from the right stakeholders, and define leading indicators that allow us to revisit the choice quickly if the evidence changes.
I would use a balanced set of metrics: design-partner conversion, active analyst and administrator adoption, time to value, detection coverage, alert fidelity, investigation and response time, retention, expansion, and revenue. The exact mix would depend on the product's maturity, with customer outcome and usage metrics prioritized before broad revenue scaling.
About this role.
Join the company that’s building the telemetry infrastructure for the AI era. At Cribl, we partner with IT and Security teams at many of the world’s biggest enterprises, including half of the Fortune 100, to bridge the gap between AI ambition and infrastructure reality. As the AI Platform for Telemetry, we give customers the choice, control, and flexibility to manage and analyze telemetry for both humans and agents, so they can build what’s next.
We’re one of the fastest‑growing private companies and a leading player in a massive, fast‑moving market. With a global workforce, we’re remote‑first and grounded in a simple idea: software is a people business. Cribl is the place where curious, collaborative people can do their best work, grow fast, and bring their full selves to the herd.
Why You’ll Love This Role
Cribl just launched Cribl Detect, our SIEM built on the Cribl platform. Detection and response is the foundation. Your job is to figure out what comes next – and then build it.
As Director of Product Management for Security Products, you’ll own the next wave of Cribl’s security portfolio. You’ll evaluate the most promising areas beyond Detect. You’ll recommend which ones to pursue and in what order, with a clear case for build, partner, or buy. Then you’ll lead what we fund, from the first customer conversations to launch and growth.
We’ll be honest: the exact scope isn’t fixed yet. That’s the point. This role is for a product leader who wants to shape a portfolio, not inherit one – and who has the security depth to make the right calls.
As An Active Member Of Our Team, You Will…
- Drive the strategy for the next wave of security products – market analysis, customer discovery, competitive landscape, and a clear recommendation on what to do first, second, and not at all.
- Build the business case for each area – the customer problem, market size, why Cribl can win, build / partner / buy options, and what it takes to get there.
- Lead execution for what we fund – define the product, write the requirements, set success metrics, and drive delivery with engineering from 0 to 1 and beyond.
- Make it one platform – make sure new capabilities work natively with Cribl Detect (shared data model, detections, alerts, and workflows), not as a set of separate tools.
- Spend real time with customers – CISOs, SOC managers, detection engineers, and analysts – and work with design partners to validate direction before we commit.
- Partner with Marketing, Sales, and technology partners on positioning, packaging, launch, and field enablement.
- Grow the team – as areas get funded, hire and lead product managers to own them.
- Represent Cribl security externally with customers, analysts, and at industry events.
- We are a remote-first company and work happens across many time-zones – you may be required to occasionally perform duties outside your standard working hours.
If You’ve Got It – We Want It
- 10+ years in product management or a closely related role, with 5+ years building security products.
- Deep understanding of security operations – SIEM, detection engineering, incident response, and how SOC teams actually work day to day.
- Hands-on product experience in at least one of: security automation and response (SOAR), identity security (ITDR, UEBA), AI or agentic security, or threat detection and response.
- A track record of taking a product from 0 to 1 – from problem discovery to a product customers pay for and use.
- Portfolio-level thinking – you have evaluated new markets, built business cases, and made clear recommendations with incomplete information.
- Leadership – experience leading or mentoring PMs, and leading through influence across engineering, marketing, and sales.
- Technical depth to go deep with engineers on data architectures, detection logic, and AI/LLM-based systems.
- Strong written communication – you write clear strategy docs and PRDs, and you make decisions in writing.
- Good judgment under uncertainty – you can say “we shouldn’t build this” as confidently as “we should.”
- Bonus Points
- Earlier career experience on a security operations team (SOC, detection engineering, or incident response).
- Experience with security data platforms, data pipelines, or security data lakes.
- Experience with partner-led product strategy or M&A evaluation.
- Familiarity with OCSF, KQL, and MITRE ATT&CK.
- Experience working with security customers in both the US and Europe.
- Experience in remote-first, distributed organizations.
- No fear – speak your mind, share your ideas.
- Good jokes (or better yet, bad ones).
- A love for goats. 🐐
