AI Summary

The role, at a glance.

Flex is seeking a senior commercial leader to launch and own its venture and private equity vertical as a full P&L business. The General Manager will develop sector strategy, originate relationships with fund decision-makers, structure partnerships, and prioritize product needs with internal banking, credit, risk, and member-experience teams. Success depends on a strong existing network in venture and private equity, deep knowledge of fund cash flows and financing needs, and the ability to build a coverage-business model. The role reports directly to the CEO and requires a detailed market map, partnership plan, and two-year sector P&L during the application process. The posting includes an apparently erroneous duplicate requirements section referring to construction, but the title, role narrative, and application assignment clearly focus on venture and private equity.

Sample interview questions
How would you prioritize the first venture and private equity relationships for Flex?

I would segment prospects by portfolio-owner concentration, influence over banking standardization, product fit, and speed to a partnership decision. I would start with firms and service providers that can introduce multiple qualified owners, then build a coverage plan around the highest-leverage general partners, fund CFOs, operating partners, administrators, and fund-finance lenders.

What would a two-year P&L for this vertical include?

It would model acquisition through direct coverage and partnerships, expected activation and deposit flows, card and credit revenue, servicing costs, partnership economics, dedicated headcount, and required product investment. I would use conservative conversion and ramp assumptions, identify leading indicators, and show the sensitivity of returns to portfolio adoption and revenue per owner.

How would you persuade a fund to standardize its portfolio on Flex?

I would lead with the fund's operating outcomes: simpler treasury management, better visibility into portfolio-company banking needs, practical credit and payment capabilities, and a coordinated onboarding experience. The proposal would align incentives for the fund, its operating team, and portfolio CFOs while establishing clear economics, service standards, and implementation milestones.

Describe how you would assess a partnership referral-economics proposal.

I would quantify incremental qualified owners, expected activation, revenue contribution, cost to serve, attribution rules, and retention before proposing economics. The structure should reward durable value rather than raw introductions, include compliance and data-sharing requirements, and preserve Flex's unit economics as the channel scales.

How would you work with product, credit, risk, and member-experience teams when a strategic prospect requests new capabilities?

I would translate the request into a quantified business case: affected customer segment, revenue opportunity, risk implications, implementation effort, and alternatives. I would prioritize features that solve repeatable sector problems, establish an accountable cross-functional plan, and communicate transparently with the prospect about scope, timing, and trade-offs.

About this role.

Flex is building the AI-native private bank for business owners.

We’re re-architecting the entire financial system for entrepreneurs—from the first dollar a business earns to how that value compounds, moves, and is ultimately spent in real life. Banking, credit, payments, personal finance, and financial operations—rebuilt from the ground up as a single, intelligent system. Flex is the full financial home for ambitious owners.

Since launching publicly in September 2023, Flex has scaled from zero to nine-figure annualized revenue, with a clear path to profitability by late 2026. We move fast, ship relentlessly, and operate with extreme ownership.

Our customers are affluent business owners ($3–$200M in revenue)—the backbone of the economy and one of the most underserved segments in finance. They’re stuck with outdated banks and fragmented tools. We’re replacing all of it. The opportunity is massive: a ~$1T+ revenue market hiding in plain sight. Our ambition is to build a $100B+ company by delivering a product that is fundamentally better—not incrementally improved.

Flex has raised $100M+ in equity and $300M+ in debt.

– Mission-critical problems: We build software that directly controls how money moves at scale.

– High bar, low ego: Small teams, exceptional people, real ownership.

– Speed over comfort: We prioritize execution, quality, clarity, and results.

– Enduring impact: What we’re building will define how a generation of owners runs their businesses.

Flex Fuels Ambition.

About The Role

Flex is hiring a General Manager to build and run its venture and private equity business. You own the sector end to end: the strategy for winning it, the relationships and partnerships that open it, the product priorities it needs, and the P&L it produces. You build on Flex’s platform, balance sheet and teams, and you are responsible for making Flex the primary financial institution for venture and private equity.

The role is modeled on sector coverage at an investment bank. You decide which relationships matter, which partnerships can move hundreds of owners onto Flex at once, and what the product must deliver to win them. Flex’s product, credit, risk and member experience teams execute and service alongside you. The role reports directly to the CEO.

Funds are the most efficient path to hundreds of owners at once. A sponsor that standardizes its portfolio on Flex, or a venture firm whose founders bank with Flex from their first wire, delivers in one decision what would otherwise take a hundred. The decision sits with general partners, fund CFOs, operating partners, fund administrators and fund-finance lenders. The General Manager owns those relationships.

What You’ll Do

  • 7 to 12 years in investment banking, private credit, private equity, venture, or a senior commercial seat inside venture and private equity. You have a demonstrable record of originating business, not servicing it.

  • An active network in venture and private equity. You can name the 50 people who matter and most of them would take your call this week.

  • Fluent in how funds and their portfolio companies move money: capital calls and distributions, portfolio treasury and credit, operating-partner priorities, and what a portfolio CFO requires to move a banking relationship.

  • Comfortable structuring partnerships, negotiating referral economics, and working through a term sheet without support.

  • You build your own models. Banker-level Excel and a working understanding of the unit economics of deposits, cards and credit.

Requirements

  • 7 to 12 years in investment banking, private credit, private equity, venture, or a senior commercial seat inside construction. You have a demonstrable record of originating business, not servicing it.

  • An active network in construction. You can name the 50 people who matter and most of them would take your call this week.

  • Fluent in how contractors are paid and where their capital gets tied up: margins, working capital, pay applications, retainage, bonding, and who lends against each.

  • Comfortable structuring partnerships, negotiating referral economics, and working through a term sheet without support.

  • You build your own models. Banker-level Excel and a working understanding of the unit economics of deposits, cards and credit.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, banking or lending, or selling a financial product to business owners.

  • A standing in venture and private equity: a podcast, a newsletter, a conference stage, or a board seat at a trade body.

  • Investing, advisory or operating experience in a company in venture and private equity.

How To Prepare

As part of the application, please be prepared to submit a one-pager along with your CV on how you would bring venture and private equity to Flex. It should cover:

  • The sector and its owners. Who they are, how many of them fall in Flex’s range, how they make money and where their capital gets tied up.

  • What they need from a bank. The products and terms that would make owners in the sector move their primary relationship, and in what order.

  • The map. The 20 to 30 people and institutions that move the sector, and how many of them you know personally.

  • The first three partnerships. The programs that would put hundreds of owners on Flex at once, and why each counterparty would say yes.

  • The investment and the return. A light P&L for the sector: what Flex would need to put in over the first two years (people, product, partnership economics, marketing) and how that investment comes back, in the form of owners banking with Flex and the revenue they produce. We are looking for the shape of the business and the logic behind it.

  • The plan and the team. How you will build this out and what you will need to do it.

  • Treat it as a coverage pitch. Bring the map, the partnerships and the economics, and be ready to defend each one.

Compensation

Compensation follows the coverage-banking model: a base that allows you to build the book without pressure to pursue the wrong relationships, and variable tied to what your sector produces for Flex, with no ceiling.

  • Base salary. $275,000 to $325,000, adjusted for location and experience.

  • Variable. Targeted at 100% of base. Paid on the revenue your sector generates, including owners sourced through your partnerships.

  • Equity. Eligible for equity compensation

  • First year. A guaranteed variable component while the book is built, agreed at offer.

Final compensation within this range will be based on experience, qualifications, and interview performance. This position is also eligible for equity compensation. Flex offers medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
