Sample interview questions
How have you monitored daily cash positions and forecasted short-term liquidity?

I review bank balances, expected receipts, payment obligations, and settlement timing each day. I reconcile material variances against the forecast, escalate funding risks early, and document assumptions so stakeholders can make timely liquidity decisions.

What steps would you take to reduce foreign-exchange exposure across multiple cash accounts?

I would first identify currency-denominated inflows, outflows, and account balances, then measure net exposures by currency and timing. Based on policy and approved limits, I would recommend natural offsets, account funding actions, or FX spot trades while maintaining a clear audit trail.

Describe how you ensure accuracy when processing high volumes of payments or treasury transactions.

I use standardized checklists, maker-checker controls, reconciliations, and exception reporting. I validate beneficiary, currency, amount, and approval details before release, investigate breaks promptly, and look for recurring errors that can be automated or prevented upstream.

How would you approach an unexplained discrepancy between a bank statement and internal treasury records?

I would compare transaction-level records, value dates, bank fees, FX conversions, and pending settlements to isolate the difference. After identifying the cause, I would correct the records or coordinate with the bank and relevant internal team, then document the resolution and any needed control improvement.

Give an example of a treasury process you would improve through automation.

I would assess repetitive manual exception tracking or cash-position data collection for rules-based automation. I would map the current workflow, define validation controls and exception paths, test the solution with users, and measure improvements in accuracy, processing time, and visibility.
