Sample interview questions
I first clarify the business definition and grain of the desired output, then map table relationships and validate join keys. I use staged CTEs to make transformations auditable, test row counts and duplicates at each stage, and reconcile final results against known totals before sharing findings.
I built a parameterized Python workflow that extracted data, performed cleaning and validation, calculated core metrics, and generated reusable outputs for stakeholders. By separating configuration, transformation, and reporting logic, the process became easier for teammates to run and reduced manual errors.
I would begin with a precise question and define relevant cohorts, events, and time windows. After validating data completeness, I would use descriptive analysis, segmentation, trend comparisons, and appropriate statistical tests to distinguish meaningful patterns from noise, then communicate both the insight and its limitations.
I lead with the decision, the key finding, and the expected impact rather than the methodology. I use clear visuals and plain language, explain only the assumptions needed to interpret the result, and keep technical detail available in an appendix or follow-up documentation.
I validate source definitions, inspect missingness and outliers, reconcile aggregates, and test edge cases before publishing results. I also request peer review for consequential analyses, document assumptions, and build repeatable checks into the workflow so quality is maintained over time.
