The role, at a glance.

Sample interview questions
I would begin by mapping ad formats, placement rules, targeting conditions, and critical user flows. I would build a layered suite covering UI rendering, ad load states, fallback behavior, tracking events, network responses, and regression scenarios, then prioritize stable high-value checks for CI/CD execution.
I use proxy and network-inspection tools to capture requests, responses, headers, payloads, and event sequences. I compare observed traffic with the ad-server and analytics specifications, verify identifiers and timing, and document any mismatch with reproducible evidence for engineering teams.
I consider platform coverage, application architecture, execution speed, test stability, team skills, and CI infrastructure. Espresso and XCUITest are strong for fast native platform tests, while Appium can be valuable when a shared cross-platform approach is appropriate; I often use a practical combination rather than a single tool.
I would first classify failures using test results, device logs, screenshots, and network traces to distinguish product defects from environmental instability. I would replace fixed waits with deterministic synchronization, isolate test data, improve device-state setup and cleanup, and track flakiness as a quality metric instead of relying on blind retries.
I would review existing test inventories, release defects, and platform-specific risks with both teams to identify missing coverage. We would agree on ownership and common quality standards, share reusable scenarios and test data, and maintain a visible coverage matrix for ad rendering, tracking, and key device or OS combinations.
