Sample interview questions
How would you test a new feature when the requirements are incomplete?

I would first review the available user stories, acceptance criteria, and related product behavior. I would clarify gaps with the product owner, developer, or senior QA, then create test cases covering expected behavior, edge cases, negative paths, and integration impacts.

What information should a high-quality bug report include?

A useful report includes a clear title, environment, prerequisites, reproducible steps, actual and expected results, severity or priority, and supporting evidence such as screenshots, logs, or API responses. It should allow a developer to understand and reproduce the issue efficiently.

How would you validate a REST API response?

I would verify the status code, response schema, required and optional fields, data types, values, error handling, and authentication behavior. I would also compare the response with the expected business rules and, where relevant, validate that the associated database data is correct.

What is the difference between retesting and regression testing?

Retesting confirms that a specific reported defect has been fixed by repeating the relevant steps. Regression testing checks whether a change or fix has unintentionally affected existing functionality in related or broader parts of the application.

How do you prioritize testing when time is limited before a release?

I would prioritize high-risk and business-critical workflows first, including core user journeys, recent code changes, integrations, and previously defect-prone areas. I would communicate coverage risks early, document what was tested, and recommend follow-up testing for lower-priority areas.
