The role, at a glance.
Flex is hiring an early Financial Crimes Analyst to investigate post-onboarding customer activity across accounts, payments, and cards. The role centers on reviewing transaction-monitoring alerts, resolving a high-volume backlog, escalating suspicious cases, and supporting UAR/SAR reporting. The analyst will produce regulator-ready case narratives, conduct enhanced due diligence, and maintain complete case-management records. As an early member of the function, this person will also identify detection gaps, improve rules and procedures, and partner with Risk, Operations, Support, and Engineering. The position is a US-remote, full-time opportunity for a professional with 1–3 years of AML, fraud operations, or transaction-monitoring experience.

Sample interview questions
I begin by validating the alert data and reviewing the customer's expected activity, KYC profile, account history, counterparties, payment flows, and relevant external information. I compare observed behavior against applicable AML typologies, document both supporting and mitigating evidence, and then clear, escalate, or recommend filing based on a defensible risk assessment.
A strong narrative is chronological, specific, and supported by evidence. It explains who was involved, what activity occurred, why it is unusual or suspicious, the relevant transaction details and dates, the investigation performed, and the resulting recommendation so that a reviewer can understand the decision without additional context.
I would first triage alerts by risk, age, potential customer impact, and regulatory urgency. I would use consistent investigation checklists and clear documentation standards, monitor throughput and quality metrics, escalate blockers quickly, and identify recurring false-positive drivers that can be addressed through rule tuning or process changes.
I would analyze alert outcomes to identify patterns such as repeated false positives, missed-risk indicators, or inconsistent dispositions. Using case data and, where available, SQL analysis, I would define the suspected issue, propose a measurable rule adjustment, test its expected impact with stakeholders, and document the rationale and results.
I separate verified facts from assumptions, identify the material information gaps, and assess the risk using the available customer profile, transaction behavior, and relevant typologies. I document the uncertainty clearly, request additional information when appropriate, and make a proportionate recommendation that can be reviewed and defended.
About this role.
Flex is building the AI-native private bank for business owners.
We’re re-architecting the entire financial system for entrepreneurs—from the first dollar a business earns to how that value compounds, moves, and is ultimately spent in real life. Banking, credit, payments, personal finance, and financial operations—rebuilt from the ground up as a single, intelligent system. Flex is the full financial home for ambitious owners.
Since launching publicly in September 2023, Flex has scaled from zero to nine-figure annualized revenue, with a clear path to profitability by late 2026. We move fast, ship relentlessly, and operate with extreme ownership.
Our customers are affluent business owners ($3–$200M in revenue)—the backbone of the economy and one of the most underserved segments in finance. They’re stuck with outdated banks and fragmented tools. We’re replacing all of it. The opportunity is massive: a ~$1T+ revenue market hiding in plain sight. Our ambition is to build a $100B+ company by delivering a product that is fundamentally better—not incrementally improved.
Flex has raised $100M+ in equity and $300M+ in debt.
– Mission-critical problems: We build software that directly controls how money moves at scale.
– High bar, low ego: Small teams, exceptional people, real ownership.
– Speed over comfort: We prioritize execution, quality, clarity, and results.
– Enduring impact: What we’re building will define how a generation of owners runs their businesses.
Team & Locations
We hire exceptional people who want to build hard things and see their work matter immediately. Roles are available in: San Francisco, Miami, New York, and fully remote.
Flex Fuels Ambition.
About the role
Flex moves real money at a serious scale, and someone has to make sure it only moves for the right reasons. We’re hiring our first Financial Crimes Analysts to be that someone, and to build the function around them.
This is a net-new role. You’ll report directly to the Head of Financial Crimes and work side by side with the people who designed our financial crime program. Once a customer is through the door, you own what happens next: monitoring their activity, investigating what looks wrong, deciding what is suspicious, and writing the narrative that backs the decision.
Your first priority will be working through our alert and case backlog and keeping the queue moving, which means a lot of hands-on investigation from day one. Our processes are still being built, so you’ll also notice what’s clunky, document it, and help simplify it. As the backlog comes under control, you’ll have more room for bigger improvements. The scope is broader than a typical analyst role because the function is still taking shape, and the people who join first will set its standards and its reputation with our partners.
This is a strong fit if you have a few years of hands-on financial crimes experience, enjoy digging into cases, and want to grow from running a process into helping design one, with a clear path into broader program responsibilities as the team grows.
What you’ll own
You’ll be a core part of financial crime detection and investigation at Flex.
Post-onboarding risk. Own the question “is this customer’s activity legitimate?” from the moment an alert fires to the moment it is cleared, escalated, or filed.
The queue and the backlog. Your first priority is working through our alert backlog and keeping the queue current, with an eye on both quality and speed, so real risk gets the scrutiny it deserves and good customers aren’t slowed down by noise.
The investigation standard. Help set the bar for what a strong case narrative looks like here: clear, well supported, and defensible to a regulator or bank partner without a follow-up call.
Detection coverage. Flag the typologies, patterns, and blind spots you see across cases and bring them to Risk, Operations, and Engineering, so they can become better rules and fewer false positives.
The process. Document what works and flag what’s clunky as you go. As the backlog comes under control, you’ll have room to take on bigger improvements.
Your voice. As one of the first official Financial Crimes Analysts at Flex, you’ll see where the process works and where it doesn’t, and you’ll have a real voice in how the team grows.
What you’ll do
Detect and decide
Review and disposition transaction monitoring alerts, applying BSA/AML typologies to separate genuinely suspicious activity from false positives
Investigate unusual activity across accounts, payments, and cards, including patterns that point to money laundering, fraud, account takeover, and other illicit behavior
Escalate higher-risk cases to supervisory review with a clear recommendation, not just a pile of facts
Support UAR and SAR filings, working alongside senior team members and building toward owning filings end to end
Investigate and document
Write case narratives so clear and well supported that a reviewer, examiner, or bank partner can follow your reasoning without a call
Conduct enhanced due diligence on existing customers whose activity raises concerns, and refresh customer risk profiles when behavior no longer matches what we were told at onboarding
Pick up cases handed over by our KYC team when a flagged account needs a deeper activity review, and hand back what you learn so onboarding decisions get sharper
Keep accurate, complete records in our case management system
Build the program
Help flag the patterns and process gaps behind noisy alerts or missed risk, and help turn them into better detection rules and simpler procedures
Partner with Risk, Operations, Support, and Engineering to close open requests and, over time, tune monitoring
Support quality assurance and file reviews, including for our bank partner program
Stay current on evolving AML typologies and regulatory guidance, and bring what you learn back to the team
What we’re looking for
You’re comfortable with ambiguity, you make sound calls with incomplete information, and you can work a high-volume queue without losing quality.
You have
1–3 years in BSA/AML compliance, transaction monitoring, fraud operations, or a related financial crimes role
Hands-on experience dispositioning transaction monitoring alerts in a platform such as Sardine, Unit21, Actimize, or similar, with a working knowledge of AML typologies
Exposure to fintech, payments, card programs, or BaaS program compliance
Experience tuning detection rules or working with data and SQL to investigate patterns
Working knowledge of KYC/CDD requirements and BSA obligations
Exposure to suspicious activity reporting, including drafting narratives or supporting UAR/SAR filings
Strong written communication: you can explain why something is or isn’t suspicious in plain language and summarize complex findings concisely
High attention to detail, plus the ability to manage a queue and prioritize well
A self-driven, growth mindset: you don’t wait to be handed the next problem, and when you see a clunky step or a noisy rule, you fix it and write down the better way
Bonus points
CAMS or another AML certification, completed or in progress
Compensation
Final compensation within this range will be based on experience, qualifications, and interview performance. This position is also eligible for equity compensation. Flex offers medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
