Sample interview questions
How would you assess and improve an existing legal contract-intake process?

I would map the current process, review request volumes and cycle-time data, interview requesters and legal users, and identify bottlenecks or unnecessary handoffs. I would then implement standardized intake fields, routing rules, self-service guidance, and measurable service-level metrics, piloting changes before broader rollout.

How do you approach using AI in legal operations while protecting confidentiality and accuracy?

I start with a defined use case and risk assessment, including data classification, vendor controls, access permissions, retention, and human-review requirements. I prioritize low-risk, repeatable tasks, monitor output quality, and document governance so that automation supports—not replaces—legal judgment.

Describe the metrics you would include in a Legal leadership dashboard.

I would include intake volume by matter type, contract turnaround time, workload by team member, aging requests, negotiation trends, self-service adoption, template usage, and key business-impact indicators. The dashboard should combine operational detail with concise executive insights and highlight areas requiring action.

How would you drive adoption of a new CLM or legal intake tool across business teams?

I would engage key stakeholders early, configure the tool around real user workflows, communicate the practical benefits, and provide role-specific training and documentation. I would also establish feedback channels, track adoption metrics, and iteratively address friction points after launch.

How do you balance strategic planning with hands-on operational work?

I use a prioritized roadmap tied to business outcomes while reserving capacity for urgent operational needs. I break strategic initiatives into measurable milestones, delegate or automate repeatable work where possible, and use reporting to ensure daily execution continues to advance longer-term goals.

About The Role & Team

Amplitude is looking for an experienced Legal Operations Manager to build and scale the systems, processes, and technology that help our Legal team operate at its best. You will partner across Commercial, Product, Privacy, Corporate, Finance, IT, and other teams to simplify how legal work gets done, improve visibility into priorities and risk, and create a more seamless experience for internal stakeholders.

This is a hands-on role for a thoughtful operator who is excited to use automation and AI-enabled technology responsibly to reduce manual work, improve knowledge access, and help the Legal team move faster without compromising quality, security, or judgment. You will own key legal operations initiatives, from contract workflows and reporting to legal technology strategy, change management, and scalable team processes.

As a Legal Operations Manager, you will:

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve scalable workflows across the Legal team, including commercial, product, privacy, corporate, and compliance-related work.

  • Own and optimize the Legal team’s technology ecosystem, including contract lifecycle management, e-signature, intake, knowledge management, and reporting tools.

  • Identify practical opportunities to leverage automation and AI-enabled tools to streamline routine legal work, improve self-service, and strengthen data quality, while partnering with Legal and IT on appropriate governance and controls.

  • Build dashboards and reporting that give Legal leadership visibility into workload, contract cycle times, key trends, business impact, and operational priorities.

  • Lead cross-functional projects and change-management efforts, including new process rollouts, systems integrations, internal enablement, and stakeholder communications.

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for legal process and technology questions, helping employees navigate Legal’s tools, resources, and ways of working.

  • Develop and maintain scalable legal knowledge resources, templates, playbooks, and training programs that make it easier for the business to engage Legal effectively.

You’ll be a great addition to the team if you have:

  • You are energized by finding better ways to work and can turn ambiguity into clear, practical processes.

  • You bring a strong point of view on how automation and AI can improve legal operations, paired with sound judgment around accuracy, confidentiality, security, and human review.

  • You can translate complex legal and operational needs into simple workflows, systems requirements, and actionable recommendations for a range of stakeholders.

  • You are comfortable moving between strategic planning and hands-on execution, whether that means designing a roadmap, building a dashboard, or troubleshooting a workflow.

  • You build strong cross-functional relationships and can influence adoption through clear communication, thoughtful change management, and a service-oriented mindset.

At a minimum, you need to have:

  • 4+ years of experience in legal operations, paralegal work, contract operations, or a related operational role supporting an in-house legal team.

  • Experience managing and improving legal processes, including contract intake, contract lifecycle management, legal requests, knowledge management, or matter tracking.

  • Proven experience using AI to improve workflows and increase efficiency for the legal team and its cross-functional parnters.

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and presenting operational data through dashboards, reports, or executive-ready insights.

  • Strong project management, organizational, written communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Ironclad, DocuSign, Slack, Tableau, Snowflake and reporting or workflow automation platforms.

If you are excited to help build a modern, AI-enabled Legal function that is operationally excellent, business-minded, and built to scale, we would love to hear from you.
