Sample interview questions
How would you evolve Proof’s brand while preserving the trust it has built in online notarization?

I would begin with customer, market, and internal stakeholder research to identify the durable equities of the existing brand. I would then define a clear architecture that connects notarization, portable identity, and authorization under one promise, using modular messaging and visual systems that retain trust while making the broader platform understandable.

Describe how you have made a complex or regulated product feel clear and differentiated through branding.

I translate technical and compliance-heavy concepts into a simple customer narrative grounded in the audience’s stakes and outcomes. I pair that narrative with an ownable visual system, practical proof points, and channel-specific creative so the brand is both memorable and credible.

How do you balance strategic brand work with high-volume requests from sales and marketing teams?

I establish a transparent intake and prioritization model tied to company objectives, audience impact, and urgency. A self-service brand hub and template library handles repeatable needs, while the core team focuses on high-impact campaigns, launches, and strategic initiatives.

What metrics would you use to assess brand health for Proof?

I would track awareness, consideration, trust and differentiation among priority buyer groups, alongside message comprehension and brand consistency. I would connect these measures to downstream signals such as branded demand, campaign performance, sales enablement adoption, win-loss insights, and customer perception.

How would you gain executive alignment when stakeholders disagree about creative direction?

I would frame the decision around the target audience, business objective, and evidence from research or testing rather than personal preference. Presenting a small number of well-reasoned options with explicit trade-offs helps leaders decide quickly while maintaining a coherent brand standard.

Opportunity details

About this role.

Proof is the world’s first identity-assured transaction management platform and we are on a mission to digitize trust for all of life’s most critical transactions. Developed by the same market leaders and experts who brought notarization online with Notarize℠, Proof offers trust in a digital world by verifying identities and securing transactions to protect businesses and their customers. Since 2015, we’ve completed many of the world’s first digital commerce transactions, including the first online real estate closing, online mortgage closing, online auto sale, and online will and we’re still just getting started!

Proof’s brand has to signal two things at once: the rigor of a WebTrust-audited certificate authority that banks can rely on, and the simplicity of an identity people can verify once and reuse anywhere. As Proof expands from the online notarization category we created into portable digital identity and agentic authorization, our brand needs to grow with us.

As Director of Brand and Creative, you’ll own Proof’s brand strategy, visual and verbal identity, and creative output across every touchpoint, including proof.com, campaigns, events, sales materials, and executive presence. Day to day, you’ll set creative direction, lead design production, and build a brand that earns trust from regulated institutions and stands out in identity and fintech.

What you’ll do as the Director of Brand and Creative at Proof:

  • Brand strategy and architecture: Define and steward Proof’s brand platform (purpose, personality, voice, and the promise of trust in high-consequence transactions), and develop brand architecture for the platform, VDC, notarization, and agentic authorization with the Director of Product Marketing. Lead brand evolution or refresh work as needed.
  • Visual and verbal identity: Own the brand system and guidelines, including logo, color, typography, iconography, illustration, photography, motion, and data visualization. Partner with the Head of Demand Content and Director of Communications on tone-of-voice guidelines.
  • Brand hub and templates: Build a self-serve brand hub and template library so Sales,
Marketing, and the wider company stay on brand.
  • Campaign and launch creative: Lead creative concepting and execution for
campaigns, product launches, and brand moments with Revenue Marketing and Product Marketing.
  • Design across touchpoints: Oversee design for proof.com, digital advertising, sales collateral, presentations, video, social, and event environments, including booth and experiential design with the Event Marketing Manager.
  • Creative operations: Run intake, prioritization, and review and approval workflows, and manage creative budgets, agencies, and freelancers.
  • Brand health and governance: Establish brand health metrics and research
(awareness, consideration, perception among target buyers), govern consistency across marketing, sales, partners, and co-marketing, and work with Product Design so the product and marketing brand feel like one company.

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years in brand and creative, including 4+ years leading brand or creative teams at a B2B technology, fintech, or security company, or senior agency experience on comparable brands.
  • A portfolio showing brand systems and campaigns that made complex or trust-centric products clear and distinctive.
  • Experience leading a brand refresh or new brand architecture during a company’s category expansion.
  • Strong creative direction across design, copy, video, and motion, and the ability to get hands-on when needed.
  • Ability to align executives on creative decisions and explain the business rationale behind brand choices.

You’ll really stand out if you have:

  • Experience building brands for financial services, payments, or identity companies.
  • Experience with AI-assisted creative workflows and modern tooling (Figma, Adobe CC, Webflow).
  • Experience spanning both B2B enterprise and consumer-facing touchpoints.
