Sample interview questions
How would you design a CI/CD pipeline for services deployed across AWS and Azure?

I would standardize source control, testing, artifact versioning, security checks, and deployment approvals while using environment-specific infrastructure definitions. The pipeline should support repeatable deployments, clear rollback paths, secrets management, and observable release health across both cloud platforms.

Describe how you would use observability to reduce MTTR for a production service.

I would define service-level indicators and alerts tied to user impact, then correlate metrics, logs, traces, and deployment events in a central observability platform. I would also create runbooks for recurring incidents and automate safe remediation steps where practical.

What practices do you follow when managing Terraform at scale?

I use reusable modules, remote state with locking, isolated environments, peer review, automated plan checks, and controlled apply workflows. I also document ownership and enforce policy checks to prevent insecure or noncompliant infrastructure changes.

Tell us about a production incident you helped resolve.

I would first establish impact, stabilize the service, and communicate status to stakeholders. After recovery, I would lead a blameless review, identify contributing conditions, update monitoring and runbooks, and implement corrective actions to reduce recurrence.

How do you mentor junior engineers in DevOps and SRE practices?

I pair on operational tasks, explain the reasoning behind reliability and security controls, and provide constructive code and infrastructure reviews. I also create practical documentation and progressively assign ownership so engineers can build confidence while maintaining safe delivery standards.
