Sample interview questions
How would you assess and transform an established talent acquisition function during your first 90 days?

I would begin with structured listening sessions, process mapping, funnel and capacity analysis, and a review of stakeholder experience. I would identify immediate operational fixes alongside longer-term structural priorities, align leaders on a practical roadmap, and communicate clear ownership and success metrics.

Describe how you use recruiting data to improve hiring outcomes.

I use data across funnel conversion, time to fill, quality signals, source performance, recruiter capacity, candidate experience, and hiring-manager responsiveness. The goal is to identify root causes rather than simply report activity, then test operational changes and monitor their impact.

How do you lead a recruiting team through significant process change?

I create a clear case for change, involve team members and key stakeholders in solution design, and set explicit expectations for adoption. I pair coaching and documentation with measurable operating rhythms so that new practices become sustainable rather than one-time initiatives.

What is your approach to senior and executive hiring?

I start by aligning on the business problem, leadership competencies, market landscape, and decision process before outreach begins. I then build a targeted search strategy, maintain disciplined calibration with stakeholders, and ensure candidates receive a thoughtful, confidential, and high-touch experience.

How would you balance hiring speed with candidate quality and a strong candidate experience?

I would establish clear service levels, decision criteria, interview design, and ownership at every stage. Streamlined processes, proactive pipelines, and timely feedback reduce delays without lowering the bar, while consistent communication protects the candidate experience.

Leading a team of approximately seven recruiting professionals, you will balance strategic leadership with operational depth, partnering closely with People and business leaders to improve how we hire. We are looking for a thoughtful change agent who can navigate complexity, challenge established ways of working, and turn strategy into sustainable change.

This is a remote-friendly opportunity that can sit in NYC (where our headquarters is located), one of our office hubs (Austin, Miami, Denver, Mountain View, or Seattle), or anywhere else in the US. However, depending upon where the remote work is performed, income could be subject to New York State tax withholding.

As Our Head of Talent Acquisition, you will be responsible for:

Change Management & Transformation

  • Assess the current TA organization, processes, and ways of working to determine what should be preserved, improved, simplified, or redesigned.
  • Define and execute a roadmap for the next phase of Talent Acquisition, prioritizing the changes that will have the greatest impact on the business.
  • Lead the organization through change by building stakeholder alignment, navigating resistance, and driving adoption of new processes and expectations.
  • Strengthen partnerships across Talent Acquisition, People, hiring managers, and business leaders to create greater clarity, consistency, and accountability throughout the hiring process.

Recruiting Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately seven recruiting professionals, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and opportunities for growth.
  • Serve as a strategic talent advisor to senior leaders, bringing recruiting expertise, market insights, and thoughtful challenge to workforce and hiring decisions.
  • Evolve our approach to proactive sourcing, talent pipelining, and market mapping based on the needs of the business.
  • Provide strategic oversight for senior-level, executive, and other business-critical searches, ensuring the right strategy, resources, and stakeholder engagement are in place.

Operational Excellence & Scale

  • Establish clear recruiting processes, operating rhythms, SLAs, and ownership that improve hiring quality, speed, consistency, and accountability.
  • Build meaningful metrics, dashboards, forecasting, and capacity planning that enable better decision-making and visibility into recruiting performance.
  • Own and optimize our recruiting technology ecosystem, including our ATS, automation, and AI-enabled tools.
  • Identify root causes and recurring bottlenecks across the hiring process and implement scalable solutions that drive continuous improvement.

You Are Likely to Succeed as the Head of Talent If:

  • You bring 10+ years of progressive Talent Acquisition experience, including significant experience leading and developing recruiting teams in high-growth or evolving organizations.
  • You have successfully inherited and transformed an existing recruiting function, operating model, or set of processes and know how to balance thoughtful assessment with decisive action.
  • You have experience supporting hiring across multiple functions, including technical, sales/GTM, and finance or professional services roles, with exposure to senior and executive hiring.
  • You are a strategic operator and influential change agent who uses data and strong business judgment to identify root causes, prioritize effectively, and bring stakeholders along through change.
  • You bring strong recruiting operations and technology expertise, including experience with Greenhouse or a comparable ATS, and understand how technology and AI can improve recruiting effectiveness.

Our compensation package includes comprehensive benefits, perks, and a competitive salary:

  • We care about your personal life, and we mean it. We offer flexible work hours, flexible vacation, a generous 401K match, parental leave, team events, wellness budget, learning reimbursement, and more!

  • The annual on-target earnings for this position are anticipated to range from $280,000 – $350,000 OTE (base + bonus). Compensation may be adjusted based on experience, scope, and internal benchmarks. In addition, the compensation package also includes equity.
