Sample interview questions
How would you adapt a technical product demonstration for electricians versus a distributor sales team?

For electricians, I would focus on installation workflow, compatibility, reliability, and troubleshooting. For distributor sales teams, I would add commercial positioning, customer use cases, product differentiation, and objection-handling points that help them sell effectively.

Describe how you would handle a technical question from a customer that you cannot immediately answer.

I would clarify the customer’s installation context and document the question accurately. I would then route it to the appropriate technical team, set an expected follow-up time, and keep the customer and distributor informed until a verified answer is provided.

What is your approach to running an effective distributor training session?

I begin by identifying the audience’s existing knowledge and the desired business outcome. I combine concise product education with live demonstrations, real installation scenarios, questions, and a clear summary of next steps and supporting resources.

How would you prioritize simultaneous requests for a customer visit, a distributor event, and a technical escalation?

I would assess customer impact, urgency, revenue or relationship risk, and whether another stakeholder can support each activity. I would address critical technical escalations promptly, communicate scheduling decisions clearly, and coordinate with internal teams to avoid leaving partners unsupported.

How do you stay current with new security and electrical technologies?

I use manufacturer documentation, technical webinars, industry events, installer feedback, and product testing to maintain current knowledge. I also convert new learning into simple training materials and practical examples for partners and customers.
