Sample interview questions
I would first clarify the feature’s functional and reliability requirements, then create a test plan covering unit, integration, end-to-end, failure-recovery, performance, and regression cases. I would automate repeatable scenarios in CI/CD and include tests for partial failures, retries, and data integrity.
Key risks include race conditions, deadlocks, resource contention, inconsistent state, and duplicate work during retries. I would use clear ownership of shared state, synchronization only where necessary, cancellation and timeout handling, and tests designed to expose nondeterministic failures.
I would describe the problem, proposed architecture, interfaces, data flow, failure modes, observability, security considerations, and testing strategy. I would actively seek feedback on tradeoffs such as consistency, availability, complexity, and operational impact, then incorporate agreed changes into the design.
I would define stages for formatting and linting, unit tests, build and image scanning, integration tests in an ephemeral environment, and end-to-end tests. I would make results visible through logs and artifacts, isolate test data, parallelize safe workloads, and ensure failures provide actionable diagnostics.
Cloud-native platforms make reliable backup and disaster recovery increasingly important because workloads are distributed, dynamic, and business-critical. I am interested in working on systems where engineering quality, automation, and resilience directly protect customer data and enable dependable operations.
