Sample interview questions
How would you build an account plan for a strategic Digital Native or retail customer in Japan?

I would begin by mapping the customer's business priorities, development environment, security and compliance drivers, decision makers, technical champions, and procurement path. I would then define stakeholder-specific value hypotheses, mutual success criteria, opportunity milestones, partner involvement, and a forecasted close plan that is reviewed regularly.

Describe how you manage a complex enterprise sales cycle with technical and business stakeholders.

I use structured discovery to connect operational and strategic problems to measurable outcomes, then coordinate solutions architects and customer-success partners around an agreed evaluation plan. I maintain executive alignment, document risks and next steps, and ensure each stakeholder understands the business case and implementation path.

How would you position GitLab's DevSecOps platform to a customer that uses multiple point tools?

I would first understand the customer's current workflow friction, toolchain costs, governance needs, and developer experience. I would position a unified platform around outcomes such as improved developer productivity, stronger security integration, clearer visibility, and reduced operational complexity, validating each claim against the customer's priorities.

What practices help you maintain an accurate forecast?

I qualify opportunities against clear criteria such as customer need, stakeholder access, technical validation, commercial process, competition, and a mutually confirmed timeline. I update close dates based on evidence rather than optimism, record risks explicitly, and communicate changes early to sales leadership.

How do you work effectively with channel partners while retaining ownership of an enterprise opportunity?

I align early on target accounts, roles, customer value, qualification criteria, and communication cadence. I keep a shared account plan, support partners with relevant enablement and resources, and maintain direct customer engagement so that responsibilities, deal strategy, and next steps remain transparent.
