Sample interview questions
How would you turn an emerging cardiovascular sensing capability into a member-facing Oura feature?

I would first validate signal quality, intended use, and evidence with science and engineering partners. I would then define the user problem, target population, product claims, success metrics, and regulatory pathway before prototyping understandable insights with design and testing them with members.

How do you prioritize wellness features against potentially regulated medical-use opportunities?

I use a transparent framework that weighs member impact, clinical evidence, technical feasibility, risk, regulatory burden, strategic fit, and time to value. I would maintain separate assumptions for wellness and regulated claims, then sequence investments to create learning while protecting user trust and safety.

Describe how you would communicate complex signals such as HRV, ECG, or PPG to consumers.

I would avoid presenting raw technical data without context and instead explain what changed, why it may matter, and what action a member can take. The experience should clearly communicate uncertainty, avoid diagnostic overreach, and offer deeper education for users who want additional detail.

How would you manage tradeoffs when science, engineering, design, and regulatory teams disagree on a product decision?

I would make the decision criteria explicit, including evidence strength, user value, safety, feasibility, and timeline. After ensuring each discipline's risks and assumptions are documented, I would facilitate a decision that is reversible where possible and escalate only when the tradeoff affects strategy or compliance.

What metrics would you use to evaluate a new heart-health experience?

I would combine leading and outcome metrics: feature activation, comprehension, engagement, retention, user-reported usefulness, and trust measures. Depending on the feature, I would also monitor signal reliability, alert quality, support contacts, safety issues, and evidence that users take appropriate follow-up actions.
