Sample interview questions
How would you evaluate the effectiveness of a user-acquisition campaign?

I would define the campaign cohort and compare it with an appropriate baseline or control group. I would measure funnel conversion, CAC, activation, retention, and downstream value over a consistent observation window, then segment results by channel, audience, and geography to identify actionable differences.

Describe how you would investigate a sudden decline in conversion rate.

I would first validate the data pipeline and metric definitions to rule out tracking or query issues. Next, I would decompose the funnel by date, platform, traffic source, geography, and user segment to locate where the change occurred, review relevant product or campaign changes, and communicate both findings and recommended tests.

What practices do you use when writing SQL for large-scale datasets?

I start with clearly defined business logic and validate row counts and key aggregates at each stage. I avoid unnecessary full-table scans, select only needed columns, filter early, use appropriate joins and partitions, and document assumptions so that the analysis can be reviewed and reproduced.

How would you design a dashboard for a growth marketing team?

I would begin with the team’s decisions and core KPIs, such as spend, acquisition, activation, conversion, CAC, retention, and ROI. The dashboard would show trend and funnel views, allow filtering by campaign and audience, flag material changes, and include concise metric definitions so stakeholders can interpret it consistently.

How do you present complex analytical findings to executives or operational teams?

I lead with the business question, the most important result, and the recommended action. I use simple visuals and plain language, explain only the methodology needed to establish confidence, and clearly state limitations, expected impact, and the next decision or experiment.
