Sample interview questions
How would you manage a SaaS renewal to avoid unnecessary spend and service disruption?

I would begin well before the renewal date by confirming contract terms, notice periods, current usage, seat allocation, and stakeholder requirements. I would identify unused licenses and negotiate pricing, terms, or right-sizing opportunities before coordinating approvals and documenting the final agreement.

Describe how you would evaluate a new software vendor.

I would define business requirements with stakeholders, compare vendors against cost, functionality, implementation effort, service levels, and contractual terms, and coordinate security and legal reviews. I would document the evaluation so the selection is transparent, compliant, and aligned with the company’s needs.

What metrics would you use to assess procurement performance?

I would track spend under management, savings realized or avoided, renewal lead time, purchase-order compliance, approval-cycle time, vendor concentration, contract coverage, and supplier performance. The appropriate dashboard would connect these metrics to cost control, operational efficiency, and risk reduction.

How do you approach a vendor security and risk review?

I would collect relevant materials such as SOC 2 reports, security questionnaires, data-processing terms, and incident-response information. I would partner with Security, Legal, and the business owner to identify risks, ensure remediation items are addressed, and document the approval decision before purchase or renewal.

Give an example of how you would improve a manual procurement workflow.

I would map the current intake, approval, purchasing, and contract steps to identify bottlenecks and incomplete data. I would then configure standardized intake forms, approval rules, reminders, and system integrations, measure adoption and cycle-time changes, and refine the workflow using stakeholder feedback.
