Sample interview questions
I would first validate the invoice, contract or order details, usage records, pricing configuration, and any credits already applied. I would compare the findings with prior cases and relevant system records, document the root cause, and communicate a clear resolution plan to the customer and internal stakeholders.
I use pivot tables to summarize transactions by customer, product, period, or invoice status, and lookup functions to reconcile data across source files. I also apply data validation, filters, conditional formatting, and exception checks to identify duplicates, missing values, or unexpected billing variances.
Key controls include documented approval workflows for pricing changes and credits, reconciliations between billing and ERP systems, restricted access to customer master data, and periodic reviews of billing exceptions. I would also ensure that evidence for adjustments is retained for audit purposes.
I assess each request by close impact, customer impact, SLA deadline, and dependencies on other teams. I communicate priorities and expected timelines early, complete high-risk reconciliations first, and escalate blockers promptly with the relevant supporting data.
I would explain the issue in business terms first, including the customer impact, cause, and recommended next step. I would avoid unnecessary system jargon, provide concise evidence such as invoice or usage examples, and confirm ownership and timing for the resolution.
