Customer.io powers automated communication that people actually want to receive. We help teams send smarter, more relevant messages using real-time behavioral data.
About the role
Hi, my name is Megan Berry, Senior Director of Product Management at Customer.io, and I’m looking for a Product Manager to improve how customers experience their first weeks with us. Our self-serve business is a growing part of how customers discover and adopt Customer.io, and this role sits at the center of that motion, working alongside our Senior PM on the self-serve pod. You’ll have real ownership over a defined slice of the journey, with the data, experimentation muscle, and cross-functional partners to move it.
What we value
- Customer empathy — you dig into what’s actually slowing customers down, not just what the dashboard says.
- Bias to experiment — you’d rather run a test than debate an opinion.
- Clear communication — you make complex tradeoffs easy for others to follow.
- Ownership without ego — you drive your area forward and know when to ask for help.
What you’ll do
- Own the product experience of of our own agent, working with our agent team to ensure it is first-class, competitive and helpful for the AI-first marketer who uses our platform.
- Work closely with other PMs and squads to ensure the agent works well with each part of the platform it touches.
- Find and resolve friction points using data, experimentation, and customer insight.
- Define and track success metrics for activation, retention, and monetization.
- Partner with Marketing, CX, and Design to ensure success across all touch points
- Work with Engineering to scope and deliver improvements that produce customer value
- Communicate priorities and progress clearly across teams and leadership.
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years of product management experience in SaaS, ideally with some experience PMing an agentic experience.
- Experience using or developing AI-powered tooling in your product workflow
- A track record of improving activation or retention metrics.
- Strong analytical and experimentation skills — data-driven but comfortable with ambiguity.
- Experience collaborating across Product, Marketing, and CX.
- A clear communicator who simplifies complexity and drives alignment.
- Deep curiosity about what helps customers succeed.
- Comfort working autonomously in a remote, async-first environment.

Sample interview questions
I would combine funnel data, session behavior, support themes, and customer interviews to identify the highest-impact points of friction. I would prioritize opportunities by expected customer impact, confidence, implementation effort, and strategic importance, then define a small set of measurable experiments.
I would first define an activation event that demonstrates meaningful value, such as publishing a campaign created with agent assistance. I would test guided onboarding, contextual prompts, or templates against the current experience, measure completion and downstream retention, and validate results by customer segment.
I would establish a shared problem statement, user outcomes, success metrics, and clear ownership boundaries. I would use evidence on customer impact and platform leverage to sequence work, communicate the rationale openly, and maintain a roadmap that highlights dependencies and decisions.
I would track adoption, successful task completion, time to value, repeat usage, user satisfaction, and quality signals such as edits or abandonment. I would connect these leading indicators to activation, retention, and monetization outcomes while segmenting results by customer type and use case.
I clearly separate known facts, assumptions, risks, and the decision needed. I present the customer problem, available options, expected tradeoffs, recommended path, and validation plan so stakeholders can align even when complete certainty is not possible.
