Sample interview questions
How have you managed procurement for long-lead critical infrastructure equipment?

I establish an equipment register tied to the critical path, validate technical specifications early, obtain supplier manufacturing schedules, and hold regular risk reviews. I use milestone tracking for design approval, manufacturing, FAT, shipping, and site delivery so that issues can be escalated before they affect commissioning.

What factors do you evaluate when selecting a vendor for data-center power or cooling equipment?

I assess technical compliance, reliability history, manufacturing capacity, lead time, service support, warranty terms, financial stability, and total cost of ownership. I also verify the vendor's ability to meet testing, documentation, delivery, and performance-guarantee requirements.

Describe your approach to a factory acceptance test that identifies a non-conformance.

I document the issue against the approved specification, agree on containment and root-cause actions with the supplier, and define a corrective-action deadline. I then verify the correction through retesting or objective evidence and update project stakeholders on any schedule or technical implications.

How do you coordinate technical procurement decisions with engineering and construction teams?

I create clear responsibility matrices, maintain a technical clarification log, and schedule structured design and vendor review sessions. This ensures specifications, interfaces, installation requirements, and change decisions are documented and aligned before purchase orders or site delivery.

How would you mitigate the risk of a delayed generator or chiller delivery?

I would first confirm the supplier's recovery plan and identify the root cause, then assess alternatives such as production-slot changes, approved equivalent equipment, expedited logistics, or revised installation sequencing. I would communicate quantified schedule impacts and contingency options to project leadership for timely decisions.
