About The Role

The People Systems & Solutions team designs the technology workflows, processes, and data that power Apollo’s People organization. Our ecosystem spans the full employee and talent lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding, organizational structure, compensation, performance, compliance, reporting, and analytics.

We believe AI will fundamentally change how People teams operate. Getting there requires trusted data, simple processes, thoughtfully designed workflows, and an integrated technology ecosystem. This role will help build and evolve that foundation.

The People Systems and Solutions Manager will partner with the Head of People Systems & Solutions, People leadership, and IT to shape and drive Apollo’s People Systems roadmap. You will translate People and business needs into clear requirements, lead multi-quarter systems and process initiatives, configure and improve platforms and workflows, and manage our People technology vendors.

This is an individual contributor role today. You will lead through deep expertise, sound judgment, clear operating mechanisms, and influence rather than direct management authority. As the function evolves, the role may grow to include people management.

What You’ll Do:

  • People Systems Strategy & Roadmap: Partner with People leadership and IT to shape a multi-quarter People Systems roadmap, recommend priorities and tradeoffs, and own delivery of agreed-upon initiatives.
  • Process & Workflow Design: Translate complex business needs into simple, scalable processes, requirements, and system configurations across the employee and talent lifecycle.
  • Technology Vendor Management: Lead the evaluation, implementation, and ongoing management of People technology vendors, ensuring our platforms deliver measurable value and work together effectively.
  • Data, Reporting & AI: Improve People data governance, reporting, and analytics while identifying practical AI and automation opportunities that make work simpler and support better decisions.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner across People, IT, Data, Payroll, Finance, and Legal teams on cross-functional initiatives. Align stakeholders, drive decisions without direct authority, and measure the impact of systems investments.

What You Bring:

  • 7+ years of experience in People Systems, People Operations, HR technology, business systems, or a related field.
  • Experience shaping and delivering multi-quarter technology or process roadmaps across multiple platforms and business areas.
  • Strong business analysis and process design skills, including requirements gathering, system configuration, testing, implementation, and change management.
  • Experience evaluating and managing technology vendors and partnering with IT, data, security, and integration teams.
  • Strong understanding of People data, reporting, governance, automation, and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Thrives in fast paced environments, turning complex challenges into practical, scalable solutions while working effectively across a global organization.
  • Experience mentoring or raising the capabilities of others. Prior direct people management experience is helpful but not required.

Sample interview questions
How would you build and prioritize a multi-quarter People Systems roadmap?

I would begin with a structured assessment of business goals, employee-lifecycle pain points, system health, data quality, compliance needs, and stakeholder requests. I would size initiatives by impact, risk, effort, dependencies, and readiness, then align priorities with People and IT leadership through a transparent decision framework. The resulting roadmap would define outcomes, owners, milestones, measures of success, and regular review points.

Describe your approach to translating a People team request into a scalable system solution.

I first clarify the underlying business problem, users, policy constraints, desired outcomes, and current-state process rather than immediately accepting a proposed tool change. I document requirements, map exceptions and dependencies, evaluate configuration versus process or integration options, and validate the preferred design with representative users. I then coordinate testing, communications, training, rollout, and post-launch measurement.

How would you improve People data governance and reporting across multiple platforms?

I would establish common definitions for core data elements, clear data ownership, quality controls, access rules, and a source-of-truth model for each domain. I would prioritize high-value reporting use cases, reconcile integration gaps, and build repeatable validation routines. Governance should be practical, with dashboards and documented standards that help teams make reliable decisions rather than create unnecessary administration.

What criteria would you use to evaluate a new People technology vendor?

I would evaluate functional fit, employee and administrator experience, integration capabilities, security and privacy posture, reporting, implementation effort, scalability, vendor support, total cost, and measurable business value. I would also involve IT, Security, Legal, Finance, and end users early to identify constraints and confirm ownership. A pilot or structured demonstration against real workflows would help validate claims before selection.

How do you influence cross-functional stakeholders when you do not have direct authority?

I build credibility by understanding each stakeholder’s goals, presenting clear data and tradeoffs, and creating simple operating mechanisms for decisions and follow-through. I make ownership, risks, dependencies, and success measures explicit, while listening carefully to concerns and adapting the plan where needed. Consistent communication and reliable execution are essential for maintaining alignment over multi-quarter initiatives.
