Opportunity details

About this role.

Hi! I’m John, Ashby‘s Head of Professional Services. One of my favorite aspects of Ashby is our operating principle of Continuous Improvement. Coupled with our principle of caring deeply about our customers, we often find ourselves wondering ‘what is a better way to accomplish this’. That’s why I am thrilled to be hiring our next Integrations Consultant! As the third member of our Integrations Consulting team (within Ashby’s Customer Success organization), you’ll have the opportunity to lead customer facing engagements, focusing on complex technical projects for some of our most strategic customers.

About this role:

As our next Integrations Consultant, you’ll be responsible for defining, managing, and executing the technical requirements for strategic customers, specifically those implementing Ashby with one of our custom-built HCM integrations. You will work with customers with varying levels of integration sophistication advising on integration best practices, technical configurations, and working with a customer’s internal expert on how to best achieve their goals. You will use your existing knowledge of both integrations and the products we will be integrating with to consult with our customers, helping them get up and running swiftly with Ashby, so they can ultimately achieve their desired business outcomes. You will partner with Product/Engineering, Implementation Specialists, CSMs, Sales Engineers, and other cross functional partners to achieve this. Ideally, this hire would be located in the EST time zone.

Role requirements:

  • Enterprise Human Capital Management (HCM) Integration Experience: You have extensive experience managing and executing integrations with Workday, as well as other enterprise-grade HCM solutions like UKG, ADP, Oracle, and SAP SuccessFactors (defining the work, aligning with stakeholders, communicating the project plan, and ultimately delivering results in accordance with the agreed upon expectations). You keep the team on track to ensure milestones are met. We’d love it if you have a Workday HCM certification. Even better if you’ve also managed integrations with tools listed under Integrations on our Ashby Knowledge Base.

  • Customer Centricity: You are adept at understanding customer needs and tailoring implementations to meet their specific requirements. You build strong customer relationships by maintaining high levels of engagement and communication; you’re the customer’s proactive guide and advocate throughout the implementation period.

  • Change Management: You are experienced in navigating change management processes and helping customers adapt to new systems and a refreshed approach.

  • Technical Proficiency: You have a solid understanding of a complex product (ideally Ashby) and its technical intricacies; you are technically curious and creative.

  • Consultative: You take pride in advising customers on best practices specific to their usage of software to ensure optimal value.

  • Innovative & Principled: You proactively address thematic customer opportunities and improve our processes accordingly. You don’t rely on ‘I’ve seen this done’ but instead think critically to solve problems.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: You effectively partner with cross-functional stakeholders across Customer Success, Sales, Product, Engineering, and Operations to align and define progress.

You could be a great fit if:

  • 📣 You demonstrate clear communication. You ask clarifying questions with precision and can distill complex concepts into simple themes.

  • ⚙️ People technology expertise: You have proven experience managing complex integrations with people technology like Workday or other ERPs, including technical solution design and troubleshooting.

  • 🎧 You are a great listener. You see your role as the voice of the customer to internal stakeholders so we can ensure that our offerings continue to evolve in accordance with customer needs.

  • 📈 You are a problem solver. You thrive at solving complex challenges with innovative, scalable solutions.

  • ⚡️You know process matters. You are eager to improve processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and efficacy.

  • 🔍 Your peers describe you as detail oriented and technically proficient. You take pride in internal operations.

  • 🤹You are adept at managing multiple simultaneous, multithreaded projects and have experience prioritizing based on customer and business needs.

  • 📊 You are data-driven. You use metrics and analytics to inform decisions and measure success.

  • 🌍 You are adaptable. You can navigate changes in a fast-paced, evolving environment, and would be happy to be the Workday SME in pre-sales conversations when needed.

  • 🧑‍🏫 You love to coach. You see every teaching moment as an opportunity and are excited to help our customers grow.

You might not be a great fit if:

  • You have limited experience leading Workday integrations.

  • You prefer an in-person role over remote.

  • You are less interested in customer-facing roles that require both technical and interpersonal skills.

  • You are accustomed to defining ideas and strategies, yet not responsible for their execution.

  • You prefer working with a simple product (such as a point solution).

  • You prefer exclusively to build (rather than build, iterate, optimize).

Sample interview questions
Describe a complex Workday integration you led from discovery through launch.

I would explain the customer objective, map the source and target data requirements, identify technical and stakeholder risks, and create a milestone-based delivery plan. I would also describe validation, testing, go-live support, and the measurable business outcome after launch.

How do you handle a customer whose integration requirements conflict with product capabilities?

I first clarify the underlying business outcome rather than accepting the stated solution at face value. I then present viable configuration options, document trade-offs, involve Product or Engineering when appropriate, and agree on a transparent path that balances customer value with a scalable product approach.

How would you manage several simultaneous customer integration projects with competing deadlines?

I would maintain a clear project plan for each engagement, assess work by customer impact, dependencies, and delivery risk, and communicate priorities early. Regular status reviews, documented decisions, and escalation of blockers help keep stakeholders aligned and milestones on track.

What is your approach to troubleshooting an HCM integration issue in production?

I would first assess the impact and establish a shared incident timeline, then isolate whether the issue originates in source data, mapping, authentication, transformation logic, or the destination system. I would communicate progress regularly, implement a safe fix, validate the outcome, and document preventive actions.

How do you make complex technical integration concepts understandable to non-technical stakeholders?

I begin with the business process and intended outcome, use simple language and concrete examples, and avoid unnecessary implementation detail. I confirm understanding through questions, summarize decisions in writing, and tailor deeper technical detail for the stakeholders who need it.
