Sample interview questions
How have you coordinated delivery across multiple software engineering teams with shared dependencies?

I establish a cross-team delivery cadence, maintain a visible dependency register, and assign clear owners and due dates for each dependency. I review risks in regular program-level ceremonies and escalate only decisions that require leadership input, allowing teams to keep moving.

How would you use JIRA to improve delivery predictability?

I would standardize workflows and issue hygiene, define consistent estimation and status conventions, and build dashboards for velocity, cycle time, throughput, blocked work, and work in progress. I would use trends from these metrics in retrospectives to identify practical process improvements rather than using them to measure individual performance.

Describe your approach to handling conflict between product priorities and engineering capacity.

I make capacity, assumptions, dependencies, and trade-offs transparent to both groups. I facilitate prioritization around customer impact, risk, effort, and roadmap value, then document the decision and revise the delivery forecast so stakeholders share the same expectations.

What role does a Technical Program Manager play in SOC 2 readiness?

The TPM helps make operational controls repeatable by documenting processes, defining evidence-producing workflows, tracking control owners, and ensuring delivery practices are consistently followed. I would partner with security, engineering, and compliance stakeholders to identify gaps and keep evidence current.

How do you distinguish a technical blocker from a process blocker?

A technical blocker generally requires an engineering decision, architecture change, environment fix, or specialized technical work. A process blocker stems from unclear ownership, missing requirements, approval delays, communication gaps, or workflow design; I address it through clarification, governance, and improved operating practices.
