About this role.
Brightline is redefining what pediatric behavioral health care looks like for families across the country, and we’re looking for the warm, skilled Behavioral Health Coach who will bring that vision to life from anywhere in the U.S.
This is a fully remote coaching role for someone who loves helping kids, teens, and caregivers build skills that make everyday life at home easier. You’ll deliver 1:1 coaching by video and chat, help families find the right support within Brightline, and partner closely with our therapists and psychiatric providers.
Coaches teach skills and support families alongside our clinical team, and we don’t provide supervision toward clinical licensure.
Location & schedule: Open to candidates in any U.S. state. Coaches work one of two fixed shifts: 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
Why This Role
One in five kids has a behavioral health condition, yet up to 80% get little or no help. Our coaches are often a family’s first real connection to Brightline, and the steady support that helps new skills stick at home.
You’ll work from thoughtfully designed programs and digital tools built to take busywork off your plate, so your time goes where it matters most: with families. You’ll also help shape the workshops, classes, and content that reach families beyond 1:1 care.
Responsibilities
Coaching & Care Delivery
Deliver 1:1 coaching to caregivers, children, and teens through video sessions and asynchronous chat, using Brightline’s structured, evidence-based programs
Teach practical skills that build coping strategies and reduce challenging behaviors, and help families set and track SMART goals
Provide timely chat support between sessions and document every member interaction accurately and on time
Care Team Partnership
Serve as the liaison between families in clinical care and their therapy and psychiatry providers
Help families explore content in the Brightline app and connect them to the right level of care when they’re ready
Recognize and escalate safety concerns following Brightline protocols, including mandated reporting requirements
Family Education & Program Development
Partner with teams across Brightline to develop and lead workshops, group classes, and new educational content
Share what you’re hearing from families to help improve our programs and tools
Requirements
Master’s degree in psychology or a related field (or expected completion within the next 12 months)
NBC-HWC, ICF, or NCHEC certification, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience, including direct service in a behavioral health setting
At least 1 year of experience in a behavioral health setting and experience with child- and family-focused CBT, motivational interviewing, and SMART goal setting
At least 1 year of formal or informal experience working with children, youth, or families (required for both pathways)
Open to and skilled at working with families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
Eager to keep building skills in evidence-based behavior change, and open to giving and receiving feedback
Excellent written and verbal skills, with a gift for explaining complex topics in age-appropriate, easy-to-understand ways
Detail-oriented, organized, and independent, with a warm, compassionate, nonjudgmental style
Quick to learn new technology and steady in a fast-growing, evolving environment
Available to work a fixed shift of 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Pacific Time
A private, quiet workspace and reliable high-speed internet so you can hold confidential video sessions
Preferred experience in digital health coaching

Sample interview questions
I would first listen to understand the child’s triggers, the family’s current responses, and the impact on daily routines. I would explain the avoidance cycle in age-appropriate language, collaborate with the caregiver on one small measurable goal, and introduce practical coping and gradual-exposure strategies within the approved care plan. I would track progress, reinforce effective efforts, and coordinate with the clinical team when the family needs a higher level of support.
I set clear expectations for responsiveness and session structure while using a warm, nonjudgmental communication style. I tailor language and examples to the child’s developmental level and the caregiver’s priorities, summarize agreed actions, and use concise check-ins between sessions. Consistent follow-through and accurate documentation help families feel supported while maintaining continuity across the care team.
I would remain calm, assess the immediate concern within my role and training, and follow Brightline’s established safety and escalation protocols without delay. I would document the interaction objectively and promptly, involve the appropriate clinical provider or emergency resource as required, and complete any mandated reporting obligations. I would communicate clearly and compassionately with the family while avoiding promises that I cannot keep.
I would begin by validating their experience and helping them identify the one concern that is most urgent or most likely to create momentum. Together, we would define a small goal that is specific, observable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, such as practicing a bedtime coping routine on three evenings this week. I would review barriers, identify supports, monitor progress with simple measures, and adjust the plan collaboratively based on what the family learns.
I would share timely, factual observations about family progress, engagement, barriers, and any safety issues through the required documentation and communication channels. I would reinforce clinician-directed goals and skills during coaching sessions rather than independently diagnosing, treating, or changing a clinical plan. When needs exceed coaching scope, I would help the family connect to the appropriate provider and ensure the handoff is clear and supportive.
