Is a camera-on request for every interview normal?

Interviews Asked Active 5 Aug 2026
Question details

For a distributed role, the recruiter said all interviews must be on video with cameras enabled, including a 30-minute technical screen. The job is otherwise described as asynchronous and flexible across time zones.

Does this usually reflect a reasonable interview practice, or could it signal expectations about constant visibility once hired? What questions could I ask to understand the team’s actual communication culture?
