Senior Software Engineer, Web Experience (Contract)

Nando’s has been in the UK and Ireland since 1992 and we’ve grown from a single takeaway store in Ealing, London to over 450 restaurants across all locations.

You will be joining a tech team that has grown in the past few years and is determined to enable change within the restaurant industry by bringing innovative thinking and the latest technology tools and practices to solve some of its most complex problems.
The Customer Web Experience Team
We are seeking a Contract Senior Software Engineer to join our Customer Web Experience team. Our remit is to bring the Nando’s brand to life with a brilliant web presence.
We look after the nandos.co.uk (and Ireland) web presence, the role will support the full replatform to a modern stack and new CMS (Storyblok). It’s an exciting time to join if you’re interested building beautiful, accessible and web performant customer experiences.
Our team owns the customer Online Ordering Web Experience whether it’s delivery, click‑and‑collect, or order‑at‑table and we’re pushing it to be genuinely world‑leading.
Responsibilities
You will:
Work with agile cross-functional teams to design, develop and maintain innovative and responsive client-side applications using modern web technologies and frameworks
Work with the Nando’s design system to bring the components, patterns and approaches to the Nando’s website replatform
Ensure the development of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code that meets performance, accessibility, and security standards
Actively participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes to ensure high-quality software development practices
Skills
You have:
Strong foundations in client-side engineering best practices, including accessibility and web performance
Proven experience working with Next.js App Router, Server Components and high performance API routes
Experience building websites using modern frameworks, libraries, languages and tooling such as React, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, Jest and Playwright
Fantastic knowledge-sharing skills to effectively communicate technical concepts in a variety of formats
A proven ability to build relationships with technical peers and other stakeholders
Opinions on Engineering Principles, Patterns and Architectures that hold up against the test of time, focusing on lean delivery with long-term maintainability
An ability to advise on engineering choices and present those choices and considered alternatives in a clear and concise manner
An understanding of the importance of constructive feedback to improve code quality and team performance
Experience with testing strategies, including unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing
You might have:
Experience with Vercel
Experience in working with modern CI/CD and cloud environments – we use Cloud Run, Cloud Build, GitHub Actions and Terraform
Familiarity with observability tools and techniques, such as logging, monitoring, and tracing
