Dear Hiring Team,

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Overhead Line Design Engineer position at WSP. With a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and over four years of experience designing overhead lines for voltages up to 130 kV, I am confident in my ability to contribute to your Power Networks division. My expertise includes tower spotting, sag/tension calculations using PLS-CADD, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.

I have worked on European utility projects and am proficient in AutoCAD and Microstation, aligning with your requirements. I am particularly drawn to WSP's collaborative environment and commitment to professional growth. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my skills can support your team.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Can you describe your experience with tower spotting and line profiling for overhead lines?
In my previous role, I performed tower spotting for 110 kV lines using PLS-CADD, optimizing tower locations to minimize costs and environmental impact. I also conducted line profiling to ensure clearance requirements were met.
How do you approach sag and tension calculations for different environmental conditions?
I use PLS-CADD to model conductor behavior under various temperatures and ice loads, referencing standards like IEC 60826. I ensure compliance with client specifications and safety factors.
Describe a project where you coordinated with internal teams to achieve design optimization.
On a 130 kV line project, I worked with civil and environmental teams to reroute the line, reducing tree clearing by 20% while maintaining electrical clearances. Regular meetings ensured alignment.
What tools and software are you proficient in for overhead line design?
I am proficient in PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and Microstation. I also have experience with Icetow for ice loading calculations and AvCAD for detailed design.
How do you ensure technical compliance and quality in your designs?
I follow a checklist approach, verifying designs against relevant standards (e.g., EN 50341) and conducting peer reviews. I also use PLS-CADD's built-in checks for clearances and loads.
