Key Skills

Electrical Commissioning Wind Turbine Maintenance Troubleshooting LV/HV Systems Safety Compliance Technical Leadership BS 7671 EN 50110 Permit to Work Offshore Wind

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the Offshore Commissioning & Service Technician position at GE Vernova. With over 5 years of experience in electrical maintenance and commissioning within the wind energy sector, I have developed strong troubleshooting skills and a deep commitment to safety. My background includes working on LV/HV systems up to 1000V AC/1500V DC and adhering to BS 7671 and EN 50110 standards.

In my previous role at XYZ Wind, I successfully led commissioning activities for 20+ turbines, reducing downtime by 15% through systematic fault diagnosis. I am proficient in Permit to Work processes and have a proven ability to guide teams in field-based environments. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the Dogger Bank project and uphold GE’s safety and quality standards.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing how my skills align with your needs.

Sincerely, [Your Name]

Describe your experience with troubleshooting electrical control systems in wind turbines. Can you provide an example of a complex issue you resolved?
In my previous role, I encountered a recurring fault in a turbine's pitch control system. I systematically checked the wiring, sensors, and controller logic, eventually finding a loose connection in the slip ring. After repair, I implemented a preventive maintenance check to avoid recurrence.
How do you ensure safety compliance when working on LV/HV systems?
I always follow the Permit to Work system, conduct point-of-work risk assessments, and use proper PPE. I also ensure isolation and grounding before any work. I am familiar with BS 7671 and EN 50110, and I regularly review safety procedures with the team.
How do you prioritize tasks when multiple issues arise during commissioning?
I assess safety-critical issues first, then consider impact on project schedule. I communicate with the site manager and team to delegate tasks based on expertise. I also use a structured approach to resolve high-priority faults quickly.
Can you explain the importance of technical documentation in your work?
Accurate documentation is crucial for traceability, compliance, and future maintenance. I ensure all commissioning reports, test results, and fault logs are completed on time and stored properly. This helps in trend analysis and continuous improvement.
Describe a time you had to guide a less experienced technician. How did you approach it?
I mentored a new technician on turbine energization procedures. I explained the steps, demonstrated safe practices, and supervised them during the first few tasks. I encouraged questions and provided feedback to build their confidence and competence.
