Engineering Management Ads Domain APIs Data Integrations Conversions API Cross-functional Collaboration Strategic Thinking Scalable Systems Talent Development Software Engineering

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Engineering Manager, Advanced Signals position at Reddit. With over 5 years of software engineering experience and 2+ years leading high-performing teams, I am excited about the opportunity to drive the technical vision for Reddit's ads signals ecosystem.

My expertise in building scalable APIs and data integrations, combined with a deep understanding of the digital ads landscape, aligns perfectly with the requirements of this role. I have a proven track record of collaborating with product, data science, and business teams to deliver impactful solutions that drive revenue and improve advertiser outcomes.

I am particularly drawn to Reddit's mission of fostering authentic communities and see immense potential in enhancing the ads platform through advanced signals. I am confident that my strategic thinking and impact-driven mindset will contribute to scaling Reddit's ads business while mentoring and developing engineering talent.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of discussing how my leadership and technical skills can support Reddit's growth.

Can you describe your experience leading a team that built APIs and data integrations for ads signals?
In my previous role as an Engineering Manager at a digital advertising company, I led a team of 6 engineers to build and scale a real-time bidding API that processed over 1 billion requests per day. We integrated with multiple mobile measurement partners (MMPs) to collect conversion signals, which improved advertiser attribution accuracy by 20%. I worked closely with product and sales teams to prioritize features and ensure alignment with business goals.
How would you drive adoption of Reddit's Conversions API among advertisers?
I would start by understanding the current pain points of advertisers and identifying the key integration barriers. Then, I would focus on creating a seamless developer experience by providing clear documentation, SDKs, and sample code. I would also establish a feedback loop with early adopters to iterate quickly. Additionally, I would collaborate with the sales and solutions teams to create case studies and demos that highlight the benefits of the Conversions API, such as improved measurement and optimization.
How do you balance planned projects with emergent asks from stakeholders?
I use a prioritization framework that considers business impact, urgency, and resource availability. I maintain a roadmap with clear milestones and buffer capacity for unplanned work. When emergent asks arise, I evaluate them against the current priorities and communicate trade-offs transparently with stakeholders. I also empower my team to handle small requests autonomously while escalating larger ones for decision-making.
Describe a time you had to coach an engineer to achieve a career goal. What was the outcome?
One of my senior engineers wanted to transition into a tech lead role. I created a development plan that included mentorship on project management, delegation, and technical decision-making. I assigned them to lead a critical project with support from me. Over six months, they gained confidence and successfully led the project to completion, improving their leadership skills and earning a promotion to Tech Lead.
How do you ensure the quality of your team's deliverables while maintaining velocity?
I advocate for a culture of quality by integrating testing and code reviews into the development process. We use automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring to catch issues early. I also encourage incremental delivery and regular retrospectives to identify process improvements. Balancing quality and velocity is about setting clear standards and empowering the team to take ownership of their work.
