Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Naval Architect position at MANTECH. With a Master's degree in Naval Architecture and over seven years of experience supporting Military Sealift Command vessels, I bring deep expertise in structural analysis, stability, and mooring. My proficiency in FEMAP/ANSYS and Optimoor, combined with an active Secret clearance, makes me well-suited to contribute to your mission-critical projects.

I am particularly drawn to MANTECH's legacy of innovation in defense. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my background aligns with your needs.

Sincerely, [Your Name]

Can you describe your experience with finite element analysis (FEA) in the context of naval vessel design?
I have extensive experience using ANSYS and FEMAP to perform FEA on hull structures, decks, and bulkheads. For example, on the T-EPF, I analyzed stress distributions under various loading conditions to ensure structural integrity within weight constraints.
How do you approach intact and damage stability calculations for a new vessel design?
I start by defining the vessel's geometry and loading conditions, then use software like GHS or NAPA to compute hydrostatics and righting arms. For damage stability, I model various flooding scenarios per regulatory criteria (e.g., SOLAS) and iteratively optimize compartmentation.
Describe a challenging mooring analysis you performed. What tools did you use?
I conducted a mooring analysis for an Expeditionary Mobile Base (T-ESB) in high-current environments using Optimoor. The challenge was to account for dynamic wind and wave loads while ensuring safe line tensions. I optimized line arrangements and recommended additional fendering.
How have you ensured compliance with military and commercial standards in your previous roles?
I continuously reference standards like the Naval Vessel Rules (NVR) and ABS rules. During the design of a T-AKE, I coordinated with classification societies to verify that our structural, stability, and outfitting met all regulatory requirements.
Can you give an example of how you collaborated with cross-functional teams on a complex ship design project?
While working on the T-EPF program, I partnered with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate deck layouts and pipe routing without compromising structural integrity. We held weekly coordination meetings and used a common data environment to resolve conflicts early.
