Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Senior Platform Engineer position at Zartis. With over 8 years of experience in platform engineering and a proven track record of designing and scaling API gateways, I am confident in my ability to lead the implementation of a robust API gateway solution for your fashion industry project. My hands-on expertise with Kong, Envoy, and cloud-native technologies aligns perfectly with the requirements outlined in the job description.

In my previous role at a fintech company, I successfully consolidated CI/CD pipelines, introduced security standards, and built shared platform capabilities that improved developer productivity by 30%. I thrive in autonomous, cross-functional teams and am adept at translating business objectives into technical solutions while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.

I am particularly drawn to Zartis's commitment to innovation and career growth, and I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to your team. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing how my skills can drive impact at Zartis.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Describe your experience leading the evaluation and implementation of an API gateway. Which gateway did you choose and why?
I led the evaluation of Kong and Envoy for a microservices migration. Kong was chosen for its extensive plugin ecosystem, ease of management, and strong community support. I implemented it as a centralized API gateway, handling authentication, rate limiting, and observability, which improved security and reduced latency.
How do you approach building a shared platform capability that meets the needs of multiple application teams?
I start by gathering requirements from application teams through stakeholder interviews and surveys. Then I design a minimal viable platform that addresses common pain points, such as standardized CI/CD pipelines or service templates. I prioritize extensibility and self-service, using internal developer portals to allow teams to provision resources autonomously. Regular feedback loops ensure continuous improvement.
Can you explain how you handle sensitive API security concerns like authentication and authorization?
I implement OAuth 2.0 with OpenID Connect for authentication, using API gateways to enforce token validation. For authorization, I use fine-grained access controls with RBAC or ABAC, depending on the use case. I also ensure that API keys are rotated regularly and that secrets are managed via a secure vault. Rate limiting and threat detection are integrated at the gateway level.
Describe a situation where you had to work with incomplete requirements. How did you proceed?
In a previous project, the business objective was to enable faster deployment for a new product line, but technical requirements were vague. I organized a workshop with stakeholders to clarify goals and constraints. Based on that, I created a prototype of a shared deployment pipeline and iterated based on feedback. The solution allowed the team to deploy within minutes instead of hours.
What strategies do you use to ensure high performance and reliability of platform services?
I implement circuit breakers, retries, and timeouts in service-to-service communication. For observability, I use distributed tracing and centralized logging with tools like Jaeger and Elasticsearch. I also set up SLIs and SLOs for critical services, and use load testing to identify bottlenecks. Monitoring dashboards alert on anomalies, and I follow a blameless incident postmortem process.
