Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Staff Product Designer role at Elation. With over 8 years of experience designing complex web-based products, I have a strong track record of leading design from discovery to delivery. Your focus on clinician-first AI-native experiences deeply resonates with my passion for healthcare innovation.

I am particularly drawn to Elation's commitment to improving physician and patient quality of life, and I am eager to bring my expertise in user research, interaction design, and visual design to your team. I look forward to contributing to your continued success and recognition as a KLAS leader.

Sincerely, [Your Name]

Can you describe a time when you led the design of a complex workflow from research to delivery?
At my previous company, I led the redesign of a patient scheduling system. I conducted contextual inquiries with clinicians, mapped out workflows, created prototypes, and iterated based on feedback. The result was a 30% reduction in scheduling time.
How do you approach designing for AI-powered features while ensuring safety and accuracy?
I prioritize transparency and user control. For example, with an AI diagnostic tool, I designed clear explanations of AI suggestions and allowed clinicians to override them. We also implemented rigorous testing and validation loops.
Describe a situation where you had to balance user needs with business or technical constraints.
In a project to streamline documentation, users wanted a fully automated solution, but technical limitations required manual input. I facilitated workshops to align on priorities and designed a hybrid system that automated 70% while keeping manual entry intuitive.
How do you mentor junior designers and raise the bar for design quality?
I organize weekly design critiques focusing on problem framing and user impact. I also pair with juniors to review their work, encouraging them to challenge assumptions and explore multiple solutions.
What metrics do you use to measure the success of your design solutions?
I track task completion rates, error rates, and user satisfaction scores. For example, after redesigning a lab result interface, we saw a 20% decrease in misinterpretation errors and positive NPS feedback.

Our team is committed to enhancing physician and patient quality of life through Elation, a SaaS cloud-based clinical platform. We’ve built a product that users love, and we plan to keep it that way by continuing to empathize with users and help them overcome their most significant challenges. Designing at Elation is humbling, challenging, and rewarding. Our users do work that affects human lives, and our tools can make or break that work.

The Role

As a Staff Product Designer, you’ll lead the design for how primary care clinicians work. You’ll develop a deep understanding of their workflows to inspire an AI-native experience while keeping the team grounded in day-to-day clinical practice.

This role is for someone who creates and champions compelling UX strategy and experience visions while guiding work across multiple squads. You’ll shape interaction patterns and contribute to visual language development — all while modeling the craft, curiosity, and collaborative ways of working that raise the bar for designers around you.

Clinicians have repeatedly awarded Elation “Best in KLAS” in our category, a recognition that reflects our clinician-first approach to everything we build. Reporting up through our Chief Product Officer, you’ll work autonomously within your team while remaining connected to a centralized design group that is deeply collaborative and curious. You’ll also find enthusiastic partners in our on-staff physicians, our users, and teams across the organization.

If you want to do complex, meaningful work at the place where design and healthcare intersect, we’d love to hear from you!

What You’ll Do (Role and Responsibilities)

  • Deeply understand our users — their problems, workflows, and jobs-to-be-done — to ensure we are always solving for the right thing.
  • Own and lead the design process from discovery to delivery, making key decisions on solution direction and details.
  • Drive the strategic direction of your domain in partnership with Product and Engineering, forecasting the impact of your solutions on users.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver a clear, consistent, and high-quality user experience.
  • As an AI-native design leader, you will balance cutting-edge technology with patient safety and accuracy across user-facing and backend experiences.
  • Define and own the user satisfaction and usability metrics for your solutions, ensuring the team is aligned on how to measure success.
  • Be a leader on the design team by mentoring other designers, leading design critiques, and driving initiatives that improve our culture, tools, and processes.

What We’re Looking For (Experience and Skills)

  • 8+ years of experience designing and shipping complex, web-based products in a cross-functional team.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces, from research and strategy through to polished, human-centered user experiences. Your portfolio should showcase your strengths in UX, UI, and visual design.
  • Proven experience in leading and executing a variety of user research methods.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of building strong partnerships with Product and Engineering.
  • Experience in designing for complex workflows is a must; experience in healthcare or with AI-powered experiences is a strong plus.
