Key Skills

Product Design UX/UI Design Design Leadership Figma Design Systems User Research Prototyping Cross-functional Collaboration AI Integration User-Centered Design

I am excited to apply for the Senior Product Designer I position at Housecall Pro. With over 6 years of experience in product design and a proven track record of leading small teams, I am confident in my ability to drive design direction and mentor designers.

I have a strong portfolio showcasing complex digital products and a deep understanding of user-centered design. I am particularly drawn to this role because of its emphasis on integrating AI capabilities thoughtfully, an area where I have practical experience and a critical perspective.

I thrive in collaborative environments and have successfully partnered with product managers, engineers, and researchers to ship high-quality experiences. My expertise in design systems and prototyping tools like Figma will allow me to contribute immediately.

I am eager to bring my skills to Housecall Pro and help create solutions that improve the lives of home service professionals. Thank you for considering my application.

How do you approach leading a team of designers through ambiguous projects?
I start by clarifying the goals and constraints, then involve the team in defining the problem space. I encourage exploration and iteration, providing structure through design sprints or regular check-ins. I also ensure each team member has clear ownership and support, fostering a safe environment for experimentation.
Describe a time you used AI to enhance a user experience. What considerations did you have?
I worked on a project where we integrated AI to personalize content recommendations. Key considerations included transparency (users should know why they see certain content), error states (handling incorrect predictions gracefully), and feedback loops (allowing users to correct the AI). I also prioritized ethical implications, such as bias and data privacy.
How do you balance user needs with business goals in your design decisions?
I advocate for user research to validate assumptions and identify pain points. Then I map those insights to business metrics like engagement or conversion. By framing design solutions as experiments with measurable outcomes, I can align user satisfaction with business objectives, often finding win-win scenarios.
Can you walk us through your process for evolving a design system at scale?
I start by auditing existing components and identifying inconsistencies. Then I collaborate with engineers to create a scalable architecture, prioritizing components that have the highest impact. I document guidelines and establish a governance model for contributions. Regular feedback loops with the design team ensure the system evolves with product needs.
How do you ensure accessibility in your designs?
I follow WCAG guidelines from the start, using tools like contrast checkers and screen readers during design. I involve users with disabilities in testing and iterate based on feedback. I also advocate for accessibility as a shared responsibility, educating the team on inclusive design practices.

You collaborate cross-functionally to ensure our products align with user needs and business goals, and you actively contribute to evolving our design system, processes, and culture.

You are highly skilled at navigating ambiguity, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and empowering your team to do their best work. You build strong partnerships across product, engineering, and research, and you know how to use AI thoughtfully: to accelerate your practice, sharpen your output, and ship better experiences for users who depend on them.

Our team is passionate, empathetic, hard working, and above all else focused on improving the lives of our service professionals (our Pros). Our success is their success.

What you do each day:

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define problems, explore solutions, and ship high-quality experiences
  • Conduct and synthesize user research and usability testing to validate decisions and uncover new insights
  • Bring sharp judgment to every AI decision, evaluating where it genuinely adds value for our customers, pushing back when it doesn’t, and carrying that perspective into discovery, prioritization, and design.
  • Design AI-assisted experiences with care, accounting for error states, confidence signals, transparency, and feedback loops, and hold a clear quality bar for every AI interaction we ship.
  • Drive continuous improvement by refining design processes, tools, and team rituals
  • Balance user needs with business goals to prioritize impactful design work
  • Present and communicate design decisions clearly to cross-functional partners and leadership
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, feedback, and inclusivity within the design team

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in product design, UX/UI design, or a related field
  • Proven people management experience, including mentoring designers and guiding design work
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience designing complex digital products across platforms
  • Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (i.e. Figma, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Experience working with and evolving design systems at scale
  • Deep understanding of user-centered design, accessibility, and interaction design best practices
  • Experience collaborating in agile product teams
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to improve workflows, streamline execution, or enhance outputs
  • Bachelor’s degree in design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent work experience

What will help you succeed:

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with a growth mindset
  • Excellent communication and storytelling ability to advocate for design
  • High emotional intelligence and a passion for supporting others
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and balance strategic thinking with tactical execution
  • Curiosity for how people think, behave, and interact with technology
  • Exceptional breadth of interest shown through tangible, self-initiated ventures or deep community involvement; you love trying new things and may possess a demonstrated history of successfully pivoting or starting over in life and work
