I am excited to apply for the Deployed Software Engineer role at Fieldguide. With a strong foundation in modern web technologies and a passion for building user-focused solutions, I am eager to contribute to your mission of automating audit workflows. My experience in customer-facing engineering roles has honed my ability to translate complex problems into elegant features.

I thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and am comfortable owning features from ideation to deployment. I have worked extensively with TypeScript, React, and Node.js, and I prioritize maintainability and reliability in my code.

Fieldguide's values of Fearless and Owners particularly resonate with me, as I am always seeking opportunities to drive impact and learn. I look forward to the possibility of joining your team and helping shape the future of audit technology.

Can you describe a time when you had to work directly with a customer to solve a challenging technical problem?
In my previous role, I worked with a client who was struggling with data integration. I scheduled regular syncs, understood their pain points, and developed a custom API solution that reduced their manual data entry by 80%.
How do you balance shipping features quickly with maintaining code quality and system health?
I prioritize by identifying the most critical path to user value, then use automated testing and observability to ensure quality. I advocate for refactoring as part of feature work to keep technical debt manageable.
Our tech stack includes TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python, and GraphQL. Which of these are you most comfortable with, and how have you used them in production?
I am highly proficient in TypeScript and React, having built several customer-facing dashboards. I have also developed Node.js microservices and used GraphQL to aggregate data from multiple sources.
This role requires up to 25% travel. How do you handle being away from home and staying productive while traveling?
I plan ahead by scheduling meetings in blocks and ensuring I have reliable internet access. I maintain a consistent routine and use travel time for deep work.
Why are you interested in working for a startup like Fieldguide, and what excites you about the audit/assurance space?
I am drawn to the impact and ownership startups offer. The opportunity to disrupt legacy audit tools with modern technology is compelling, and I see a huge potential to improve efficiency in a traditionally slow-moving industry.
