I am excited to apply for the Customer Solution Engineer position at Zuora. With over 5 years of presales experience in enterprise SaaS and deep expertise in quote-to-cash solutions, I am confident in my ability to drive technical wins for your customers. My hands-on experience with consumption and usage-based billing, combined with fluency in API integrations and modern architecture, aligns perfectly with the requirements of this role.

In my previous role at [Company], I successfully led technical wins for complex billing transformations, including designing CPQ and revenue solutions for high-volume environments. I have a proven track record of building proofs of concept and translating technical architecture into business value for stakeholders at all levels.

I am particularly drawn to Zuora's focus on AI-native monetization and the opportunity to work with cutting-edge business models. I thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and am eager to contribute to your team's success by ensuring customers achieve scalable, healthy QTC foundations.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of discussing how I can add value to Zuora and its customers.

Can you describe a time you drove a technical win in a complex enterprise sales cycle for a billing or QTC solution?
At my previous company, I led the technical side of a deal with a large telecom provider. I conducted discovery to understand their usage-based billing needs, designed a solution using our CPQ and billing platform, and built a proof of concept that demonstrated how we could handle high-volume mediation and rating. I also addressed objections from their engineering team by presenting clear architecture diagrams and performance benchmarks. The deal closed successfully, and the customer expanded usage across multiple business units.
How would you design a quote-to-cash solution for a company moving to consumption-based pricing?
I would start by understanding the customer's pricing model—whether it's per-unit, tiered, or based on events. Then, I would map out the data flow from usage capture (e.g., via APIs or metering agents) to rating, billing, and revenue recognition. Key considerations include: how usage is aggregated and mediated, how pricing tiers are applied, and how invoices are generated. I would leverage our platform's flexibility to configure the solution and use APIs to integrate with their existing systems. Finally, I would create a proof of concept to validate the flow and present it to stakeholders.
Explain the revenue implications of consumption-based billing and how you would address them in a QTC solution.
Consumption billing introduces variability in revenue recognition. For example, usage may need to be estimated and deferred until it's consumed, or recognized based on usage events. I would work with the customer's finance team to understand their revenue recognition policies (e.g., ASC 606) and configure the system to handle allocation, deferred revenue, and reconciliations. The solution must track usage at a granular level and allow for adjustments. I would also ensure proper data flows to the ERP and provide dashboards for real-time visibility.
How do you handle technical objections from a customer's engineering team during a demo or proof of concept?
I listen carefully to their concerns and ask clarifying questions to understand the root issue. Then, I address it with facts—showing performance metrics, sharing documentation, or running a live test if possible. For example, if they worry about latency in usage mediation, I might run a benchmark or show how our system scales by using caching or batch processing. I also involve our product team if needed to provide deeper technical insights. The goal is to build trust by being transparent and providing evidence.
Describe your experience with AI-native monetization. How would you approach designing a billing solution for an AI product?
I have worked with customers offering AI APIs where pricing is based on tokens or API calls. In such cases, the billing system must capture usage at high volume and low latency. I would design a solution using event-driven architecture to ingest usage data, then rate it based on the pricing model (e.g., per token, per request, or tiered). I also ensure the system can handle spikes in usage and provide real-time feedback to customers. For AI-native environments, I would also consider how to model outcomes-based pricing, where charges are contingent on results, requiring flexible invoicing and revenue recognition.

About Zuora

At Zuora, we help businesses grow smarter and adapt faster. Our platform powers modern business models — from subscriptions and usage-based pricing to AI-driven and outcome-based offerings — helping companies launch new products, automate complex billing, and unlock predictable, recurring revenue.

We’ve led the Subscription Economy for more than a decade. Now we’re evolving again by building the definitive platform for quote to cash and helping companies monetize their products and services with an adaptable, AI-ready foundation.

The Opportunity

A technical SaaS solutions engineer who drives the technical win on billing and quote-to-cash opportunities and acts as a technical SME for the most strategic customers in our install base — with real fluency in consumption/usage-based monetization and AI-native environments. You’ll scope, configure, and build QTC solutions hands-on, not just demo them

This is a hands-on Customer Solution Engineer role. You’ll partner with AEs and stay close to your accounts beyond just the deal cycle, supporting technical health and surfacing expansion.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive the technical win. Partner with AEs through enterprise sales cycles — discovery, solution design, objection handling, and clear differentiation — to secure the technical decision.
  • Own account technical health. stay embedded with your accounts as a trusted technical partner — diagnosing billing and integration issues, guiding configuration and architecture best practices, unblocking adoption, and partnering with Support and Services on escalations so customers run on a healthy, scalable QTC foundation
  • Scope and build quote-to-cash solutions. Translate customer requirements across CPQ, billing, and revenue into a defensible QTC architecture — including consumption and usage-based billing models (metering, rating, mediation, invoice presentation, and downstream rev rec implications).
  • Build and execute proofs of concept as a core part of the role — hands-on with APIs, data, and integrations (forward-deployed, not slideware).
  • Go deep on consumption and AI-native monetization. Design and demonstrate how customers monetize usage- and AI-driven products — event/usage capture, rating at scale, and the billing and revenue implications of consumption pricing.
  • Deliver technical presentations for business and technical stakeholders, including senior leadership — translating architecture and pricing-model tradeoffs into business value.
  • Support technical health and adoption on your accounts — ensure customers realize value against agreed outcomes, and identify expansion across business units, cross-sell, and add-ons.
  • Collaborate across Zuora and partners; contribute to RFPs/RFIs, field events, and customer references; support escalations cross-functionally.
  • Travel within your territory as needed.

About You

You are an experienced presales or solutions professional with a strong track record of owning technical wins in complex enterprise environments.

You likely bring:

  • 5+ years in Sales Engineering, Presales, or Solution Architecture — with demonstrated, hands-on contribution to technical wins on enterprise deals.
  • Direct billing / quote-to-cash experience — you’ve scoped and/or built solutions spanning CPQ, billing, and revenue (not just adjacent SaaS).
  • Consumption / usage-based billing fluency — metering, rating, mediation, and the revenue implications of consumption pricing.
  • Comfort in AI-native environments — you understand how AI-driven and usage-based products get monetized, and can architect for that.
  • Technical depth — APIs, integration patterns, data/reconciliation, and modern application architecture. You can debug a failing integration under time pressure, not just describe one.
  • Telecom experience is a strong plus — high-volume mediation, rating, and complex usage models.
  • Strong communication — you translate technical concepts clearly for engineers, finance stakeholders, and business leaders.
  • Structured sales methodology experience (e.g., MEDDIC, Value Selling) — or equivalent deal discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant FinTech / enterprise software background.

About the Team

You will be part of a team focused on winning and expanding complex enterprise quote-to-cash opportunities by combining technical depth, business acumen, and customer partnership.

This team works closely across Account Executives, Product, Solutions, partners, and customer stakeholders to:

  • Solve complex monetization and billing challenges
  • Deliver tailored technical strategies, demos, and proofs of concept
  • Support customers from pre-sales through post-sale technical health and adoption
  • Surface customer insight that shapes roadmap and solution direction
  • Help customers scale modern consumption and AI-native business models

This is a highly collaborative environment for someone who wants to go beyond standard demos and play a meaningful role in shaping solution architecture, customer outcomes, and long-term growth.
