Cover letter sample
I am excited to apply for the Senior Software Engineer (Golang) position at Zartis. With over 7 years of experience in software engineering and a strong focus on backend development, I have a proven track record of delivering scalable and maintainable solutions using Golang and AWS.
I am particularly drawn to your mission of revolutionizing the fitness industry and the opportunity to work within a distributed, cross-functional team. My background includes mentoring junior engineers, collaborating with product managers and designers, and implementing CI/CD pipelines to ensure high quality and rapid delivery.
I am comfortable taking ownership of complex features, making proactive decisions, and adapting to new technologies as needed. I am also passionate about continuous learning and contributing to the developer community through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
I look forward to the possibility of bringing my skills to Zartis and helping your client create impactful digital solutions for fitness entrepreneurs worldwide.
Sample interview questions
I worked on a microservices-based payment processing system. We needed to handle high concurrency and ensure data consistency. I proposed using Go's goroutines for concurrent request handling and chose a combination of REST and message queues for inter-service communication. I led the design of the service boundaries and API contracts, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
I prioritize mentoring by embedding it into regular workflow. I pair-program with junior engineers on tasks, review their code with constructive feedback, and hold weekly knowledge-sharing sessions. During tight deadlines, I delegate focused tasks that align with their skill level, providing clear context and checking in regularly to ensure progress without micromanaging.
I rely on asynchronous communication tools like Slack and Jira, and I document decisions thoroughly. We hold short daily stand-ups that rotate times if needed. I also make sure to write clear, detailed PR descriptions and use ADRs (Architecture Decision Records) to keep everyone aligned. Regular video calls for planning and retrospectives help build trust and rapport.
In a previous role, our API was experiencing slow response times under load. I profiled the Go code and identified inefficient queries and excessive allocations. I introduced connection pooling, optimized queries with indexing, and added caching layers using Redis. This reduced p95 latency by 40% and allowed us to handle a 3x increase in traffic without additional resources.
I dedicate time to learning through online courses, reading technical blogs, and experimenting with side projects. I also contribute to open-source projects and occasionally write articles about Go best practices. Recently, I gave a talk at a local meetup about building event-driven systems with Go and AWS, which helped me share knowledge and learn from others.
