Cover letter sample
Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Accountant role on Remote’s Finance, Tax & Accounting team. My accounting background includes accurate transaction processing, reconciliations, close activities, financial analysis, and working carefully within GAAP and statutory requirements.
I would bring strong Excel and finance-systems capability, attention to detail, and the ownership needed to manage multiple priorities in an asynchronous global environment. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to support compliant international operations while using automation and AI thoughtfully to improve finance processes.
Thank you for your consideration; I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute to Remote’s accounting operations.
Sample interview questions
I would use a documented close checklist with clear ownership, materiality thresholds, and cut-off dates. I would reconcile each balance to supporting schedules, investigate variances promptly, retain an audit trail, and escalate unresolved items early so the financial statements remain reliable.
I would validate the payroll file against approved payroll reports, map each component to the appropriate general-ledger accounts, and reconcile payroll liabilities, cash payments, and accruals. I would also review country-specific tax and statutory requirements and investigate differences before finalizing the posting.
I prioritize using a deadline-based close calendar, assess each task by risk and dependency, and communicate status asynchronously in a concise written format. When priorities conflict, I clarify the required outcome with my manager, complete high-risk close activities first, and document any follow-up actions.
I start by confirming the governing accounting and tax requirements for the relevant jurisdiction, then maintain a filing calendar and evidence checklist. I reconcile source data to the ledger, obtain appropriate review where needed, and retain clear support for VAT, corporate tax, and statutory-financial-statement submissions.
I use automation for repeatable data preparation, validation checks, and variance identification, while retaining human review for accounting judgments and final approval. For example, I would automate recurring reconciliation templates and exception reports, then investigate unusual movements and document conclusions.
