Cover letter sample

Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Senior Full Stack Engineer role at Monks. My experience delivering end-to-end web products with TypeScript, React, API services, and relational databases aligns well with the opportunity to build impactful features across the stack.

I bring a security-minded approach to third-party integrations, OAuth 2.0, SSO, and maintainable system design, along with practical experience collaborating across product, design, and engineering teams. I would welcome the opportunity to help Monks build reliable, scalable solutions while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing squad.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Sample interview questions
How would you design and deliver an end-to-end feature that requires a React interface, NestJS API, and PostgreSQL schema changes?

I would begin by clarifying user outcomes, edge cases, authorization rules, and acceptance criteria with product and design. I would define API contracts and the data model early, implement migrations and backend validation, then build the React experience against stable interfaces. I would use code reviews, automated tests, observability, and a staged rollout to validate the feature safely in production.

What are the key security considerations when implementing an OAuth 2.0 authorization flow and SSO integration?

I would use the appropriate flow for the client type, typically Authorization Code with PKCE for browser-based applications. I would validate redirect URIs, state and nonce values, token issuer, audience, signature, expiry, and scopes, while keeping credentials and refresh tokens out of client-side storage where possible. Secrets should be managed through approved credential systems, and the integration should have audit logging, least-privilege scopes, and clear token revocation behavior.

How do you structure a NestJS service to remain maintainable as the application grows?

I prefer clear module boundaries aligned to business domains, with controllers kept thin and application services responsible for use cases. Domain logic should not be tightly coupled to database or third-party providers, so repositories and adapters can isolate infrastructure concerns. Shared contracts, validation, consistent error handling, tests, and dependency injection help preserve maintainability as teams and services expand.

Describe how you would troubleshoot a production issue in a Kubernetes-hosted application.

I would first assess user impact and stabilize the system through rollback, scaling, or feature-flag controls if needed. Next, I would inspect application logs, metrics, traces, pod events, deployment changes, resource limits, and dependency health to form and test a hypothesis. After resolving the issue, I would document the root cause and implement preventive actions such as alerts, regression tests, runbook updates, or infrastructure configuration changes.

How would you approach bootstrapping a new squad or system from scratch?

I would establish the problem statement, success metrics, ownership boundaries, and a thin vertical slice that delivers value quickly. I would align the team on architecture principles, development workflow, quality gates, environments, observability, and security expectations without over-engineering the initial release. Regular demos, technical decision records, and iterative feedback would keep the squad aligned while allowing the system to evolve based on real needs.

We’re looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our team. Whether you’re ready to embed with an established squad or help bootstrap a brand-new one, this is an opportunity to build impactful features across the stack with modern tools and a smart, collaborative team. You’ll report to an Engineering Manager and work on real, high-impact initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end feature delivery—from UI/UX to API and database design.
  • Build and maintain scalable React interfaces
  • Architect and implement APIs using NestJS and Postgres
  • Manage integrations with external services using internal credential/token management systems
  • Design and implement secure OAuth 2.0 flows and SSO (Google, Microsoft, etc.)
  • Contribute to and maintain our Docker/Kubernetes/Helm-based infrastructure
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers across the organization
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code across the stack

About You

The essentials:

  • Strong proficiency with TypeScript, React, NestJS, and Postgres
  • Comfortable shipping across the entire stack—UI to DB.
  • Experience with monorepo tooling (pnpm, turborepo, nx)
  • Solid understanding of API authentication, credential management, and secure integrations with third-party services
  • In-depth knowledge of OAuth 2.0, including implementation of valid auth flows and SSO
  • Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm in production environments
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design or clean architecture patterns

Not a must, but a plus:

  • Experience with infrastructure as code (we use Terraform)
  • Prior work in high-compliance environments (HIPAA, SOC2, etc.)
  • Experience bootstrapping new squads or systems from scratch.
  • AI/ML familiarity—especially implementing tools like LangChain or working with embeddings and RAG pipelines

Location Requirement:

  • This is a remote role, but applicants must be based in Brazil and legally eligible to work in the country.
