Cover letter sample
Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Commercial Insurance Specialist role, bringing hands-on experience supporting U.S. commercial insurance accounts through submissions, renewals, endorsements, policy reviews, and certificate issuance.
I am comfortable coordinating directly with carriers and underwriters on manually underwritten business and ensuring that coverage terms, limits, documentation, and outstanding requirements are accurately managed from placement through servicing.
My detail-oriented approach, ownership mindset, and professional communication style would enable me to provide dependable support to Risk Advisors while maintaining a high standard of client service in a fast-paced remote environment.
I would welcome the opportunity to contribute my commercial-lines expertise to the team.
Sample interview questions
I have supported commercial accounts from initial submission through quotation, binding, issuance, renewal, and midterm servicing. My work includes collecting exposure information, preparing applications, tracking carrier requirements, reviewing issued policies, processing endorsements, and maintaining complete records in the agency management system.
I compare the issued policy, declarations, endorsements, and forms against the proposal, binder, application, and client requirements. I verify named insureds, locations, limits, deductibles, classifications, effective dates, additional-insured wording, and exclusions, then promptly document and escalate any discrepancy to the Risk Advisor or carrier.
I would prioritize accounts by expiration date, coverage risk, and dependency, then create a clear follow-up tracker for each outstanding item. I would send concise, deadline-focused communications, document all activity in the AMS, proactively escalate blockers, and keep the Risk Advisor informed so decisions can be made before coverage is at risk.
I first ensure the submission is complete, organized, and consistent with the carrier's appetite and required supplemental forms. I provide a concise account narrative, clearly identify exposures and requested coverage, respond quickly to subjectivities, and maintain a written record of requirements, revisions, and commitments through binding.
I would use documented checklists and examples to review high-impact items such as COIs, endorsements, policy entries, and renewal files. I would provide specific, constructive feedback, explain the insurance and client-service impact of errors, identify recurring training needs, and gradually increase independent responsibility as accuracy improves.
