EverAI is seeking a junior-to-mid-level legal and compliance generalist to support a rapidly growing AI companionship platform. The role focuses on GDPR documentation, DPAs and TIAs, AI governance, consumer-rights reviews, IP matters, contract review, and policy updates. The specialist will work closely with the Legal & Safety Lead while independently owning day-to-day compliance workflows and legal research. Candidates need legal training, 2–6 years of relevant experience including contracts and data protection, fluent English, and comfort reviewing uncensored NSFW AI-generated content.

Sample interview questions
I start by mapping the processing activities, parties, data categories, purposes, security measures, and international transfer mechanisms. I then assess whether the contractual clauses and supplementary measures appropriately address the identified risks, document outstanding issues, and coordinate with vendors or internal stakeholders to resolve them.
I would first understand the feature’s user journey, data flows, intended audience, model inputs and outputs, and moderation controls. I would identify applicable requirements across privacy, consumer protection, AI governance, content safety, and intellectual property, then provide prioritized, practical recommendations with clear owners and implementation steps.
I separate the legal rule from its operational impact, explain the risk in plain language, and propose concrete product or process changes. I use concise written guidance, decision logs, and follow-up discussions so teams understand both what needs to change and why it matters.
I would clearly communicate the required changes, explain the compliance rationale, set a reasonable response deadline, and track the matter in an escalation workflow. If delays continue, I would assess the risk with the Legal Lead and relevant business owner, including whether interim safeguards, alternative vendors, or a pause in processing are necessary.
I would treat the material as part of a structured compliance and safety review, focusing on policy, legal, and risk criteria rather than personal reactions. I would follow documented handling procedures, maintain confidentiality, raise concerns promptly, and use regular check-ins with the Legal & Safety Lead when escalation or support is appropriate.

The Role
We are looking for a motivated AI Legal Specialist with a passion for all-things-tech & AI to join our Compliance Team. In this role, you’ll be owning legal and compliance-related workflows/projects, guided by and working side-by-side our Legal & Safety Lead, Maxwelle Sokol.
This is a unique opportunity to develop your legal expertise at the frontier of AI and e-commerce regulation, and join a growing Compliance team at a leading, fast-moving AI companion platform.
This is envisioned as a generalist role who can handle the wide array of legal/compliance topics that come in. We don’t expect applicants to have experience in every category listed below, but a doer mindset & motivation to learn about these topics is non-negotiable. 💫
Here’s what you can expect:
Key Responsibilities
🌏 Owning compliance with worldwide laws applicable to AI, e-commerce platforms
Contracts and assessments required under data protection law, including the GDPR (DPAs, TIAs, etc.).
Preparing, maintaining required compliance documentation, e.g.:
Internal documentation under data protection, AI Governance, consumer rights, and similar laws
EverAI’s AI systems inventory (in line with EU guidance)
Risk assessments under applicable safety laws
Product & feature reviews (e.g., for consumer rights, data protection compliance)
Owning day-to-day compliance tasks:
Standard IP issues (e.g., DMCA notices, copycats)
Contract reviews (NDAs, licenses)
Legal terms updates (including TOS, Privacy Notices, and content policies)
Tracking, researching and analyzing relevant legal developments (e.g., the application of new laws or regulatory guidance to EverAI)

Meeting with our Legal & Safety Lead, a US lawyer by training, with 10+ years experience in litigation and in-house roles, on a regular basis to clarify questions, co-develop recommendations based on research, and share any relevant insights

Your Qualifications
Hard Skills
Legal education (e.g., Masters of Law, Juris Doctor, recognized legal certification)
2-6 years of experience as legal counsel or similar positions:
At least 2 years of your experience must be working with contracts generally, and data protection law specifically. For example:
You should know what a Data Protection Agreement and Transfer Impact Assessment are, and have some experience preparing them;
You should have experience contacting vendors about contract-related issues.
Experience in applying or interest in learning the legal landscape applicable to B2C companies
Ability to distill complex legal concepts into plain English
Professional experience or interest in AI
