Sample interview questions
Describe a financial product or regulated system you led from early concept through production. How did you manage risk and delivery speed?

I would explain the product scope, regulatory and operational constraints, and the milestones used to reduce risk early. I would highlight how I partnered with compliance, product, and operations; introduced controls and observability; and shipped in small increments while tracking customer and reliability outcomes.

How would you approach the technical design of an Early Payouts product?

I would begin by mapping money flows, ledger and reconciliation requirements, eligibility and underwriting decisions, partner-bank interfaces, failure modes, and audit needs. I would favor clear domain boundaries, idempotent workflows, robust event tracing, reconciliation processes, and measurable risk controls before scaling volume.

How do you balance feature delivery, technical debt, and reliability work for a team with ambitious roadmap commitments?

I use transparent capacity planning and make reliability and debt visible alongside product work. I align investments to customer impact and risk, reserve recurring capacity for foundational improvements, define service-level objectives, and revisit priorities using delivery data and incident trends.

What is your approach to managing and developing engineers across a distributed team?

I establish clear goals, decision-making expectations, communication norms, and regular one-to-ones. I tailor coaching to each engineer's level and career goals, provide timely feedback, create ownership opportunities, and ensure distributed contributors have equitable access to context and advancement.

How would you investigate a discrepancy between payout records, partner-bank data, and internal ledger balances?

I would first contain customer impact and establish an incident owner and communication cadence. I would use SQL and event traces to reconcile records by transaction state and time window, identify the source of divergence, correct data through controlled procedures, and implement monitoring or process changes to prevent recurrence.

RevenueCat removes the headaches of building and scaling in‑app subscriptions. Since graduating from YC’s S18 batch we’ve grown into the default monetization platform for mobile: we’re in >40% of newly shipped subscription apps, we process $12B+ in annual purchase volume, and we help everyone from a solo dev in Brazil to the OpenAI mobile team understand and grow their revenue.

We’re a remote‑first crew of 150+, spread across 25+ countries, and guided by values we actually practice: Customer Obsession, Always Be Shipping, Own It, and Balance.
