I would establish clear user and business success metrics before launching experiments, including guardrails such as retention, satisfaction, conversion quality, and support signals. The team would use small, reversible releases and evaluate results quickly, scaling only ideas that improve both user value and sustainable revenue outcomes.
I would begin by aligning the team on product goals, system constraints, and platform-specific requirements. I would then define shared architectural principles, invest in reusable services and instrumentation where appropriate, and empower platform owners to make implementation decisions while maintaining a consistent customer experience.
I use technical involvement to improve team leverage rather than to become a bottleneck. This includes participating in design reviews, clarifying tradeoffs, mentoring engineers through difficult problems, and occasionally contributing code, while delegating ownership and creating clear growth opportunities for each team member.
I would explain the desired business outcome, compare initiatives by expected impact, confidence, effort, and strategic importance, and make the tradeoffs explicit. After communicating the decision and rationale to stakeholders, I would establish checkpoints so the allocation can be adjusted as new evidence emerges.
I would combine product metrics such as conversion, retention, engagement, and monetization with delivery metrics such as experiment throughput, reliability, and time to learn. I would also track team health indicators, including clarity of priorities, growth progress, operational load, and cross-functional partner feedback.

We’re looking for a highly technical, hands-on, and empathetic Engineering Manager to lead one of our full stack squads in our Revenue organization. This is a high-impact role where you’ll be directly responsible for one of Discord’s major business lines, delivering premium experiences that create real value for users while driving company revenue.
You’ll partner closely with Product to define and execute on long-term strategy, leading a full-stack team of engineers working across web, Android, and iOS. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize the most impactful work, guide the technical direction of the team, and jump into the code when needed. What you’ll do
- Collaborate closely with your cross-functional team (Product, Design, Data Science, Marketing, 3P Partnerships and UX Research) to drive your team’s vision and roadmap.
- Lead a team of engaged full stack engineers by hiring, coaching, and instilling best practices.
- Use your technical expertise to make appropriate tradeoffs and ensure your team is designing scalable technical solutions and delivering high-quality products.
- Instill a culture that both drives impactful results and delights the end user.
- Set a strong pace for the team by fostering a culture of 80/20 thinking, shipping and iterating quickly, and making timely decisions even in ambiguous problem spaces.

What you should have
- You have 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
- You have 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager
- You collaborate closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and other engineers to define great solutions to business problems
- You take pride in delivering a delightful experience for end users, stakeholders and anyone you work with
- You are motivated to help your team members succeed and have experience growing engineers
- Code doesn’t scare you – you are still an engineer even if you don’t do it all the time
- You embrace “all problems are my problem.” You help your team and cross-functional partners overcome obstacles and resolve blockers so the work keeps moving.

For this role, there is no formal requirement to work from the office.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248k to $341k + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
