Sample interview questions
How would you create a trusted dashboard for appointment routing and phlebotomist utilization?

I would first align stakeholders on the decisions the dashboard must support and define each metric, owner, grain, refresh cadence, and source of truth. I would build validated transformation layers, add data-quality tests for completeness and consistency, reconcile outputs to operational records, and document metric definitions. I would then design drill-downs by market, time period, appointment type, and provider while collecting feedback after launch.

Describe how you would approach an ambiguous market-expansion analysis.

I would frame the decision first: which markets are viable, at what expected demand, service capacity, cost, and time to launch. I would combine external demand indicators with internal partner, routing, utilization, and unit-economics data, explicitly state assumptions, and model base, upside, and downside scenarios. I would present a prioritized recommendation with sensitivity analysis and the additional data needed before committing resources.

What steps would you take when Finance and Operations report different values for the same KPI?

I would compare the metric definitions, data grain, time windows, source systems, filters, and transformation logic before assuming either result is wrong. I would trace both calculations back to raw data, identify the source of variance, and facilitate agreement on a governed definition tied to the intended business use. Finally, I would document the definition and update shared models or dashboards to prevent recurrence.

How would you investigate an increase in cancellations or reschedules in a specific market?

I would quantify the change against a historical baseline and segment it by lead time, appointment type, geography, partner, day and time, patient cohort, and assigned phlebotomist. I would inspect operational events and qualitative feedback to test likely causes such as routing constraints, staffing gaps, communications, or eligibility issues. I would recommend targeted interventions, establish success metrics, and monitor results through an experiment or phased rollout.

How do you communicate a complex analysis to senior leaders and external partners?

I start with the decision, the key finding, and the recommended action rather than the methodology. I use a concise narrative supported by a small number of clear visuals, explain material assumptions and risks, and retain detailed logic in an appendix for technical review. For external partners, I tailor terminology and focus on shared outcomes, performance trends, and practical next steps.
