I would define the infrastructure in a version-controlled template, including networking, security groups, compute resources, IAM roles, and required outputs. I would validate the template, deploy it through a controlled pipeline, and use parameters and environments to keep development and production configurations consistent.
Branches let developers isolate work, such as a feature or bug fix, without changing the main code line. Merging incorporates reviewed changes back into a shared branch, and I would use pull requests, clear commit messages, and conflict resolution carefully to protect code quality.
I would first review the Jenkins console output to identify the failing stage and error message. Then I would check recent code or configuration changes, credentials, build artifacts, environment variables, and target-system logs before reproducing the issue safely and communicating status to the team.
Automation reduces manual errors, makes environments reproducible, speeds up delivery, and creates an auditable record of infrastructure changes. It also allows engineers to focus on higher-value troubleshooting and improvement work instead of repetitive provisioning tasks.
I would begin by checking service status, application logs, system resource utilization, connectivity, and recent deployments. I would use the established runbook and escalation process, make only approved changes, and document the incident, actions taken, and any recommended preventive improvements.

Modernization only counts when the release lands and the legacy system gets switched off and the DevOps team is where that discipline lives. As a DevOps Engineer intern, you’ll join the team managing large customer deployments: Linux and Windows administration, large enterprise applications, and big data workloads. This work serves our infrastructure and application modernization pillar the migrations that move customers off dedicated hardware and onto AWS.
You’re here to learn the agent-native craft, not to own cutover the senior engineers carry that commitment. What you will own is real operational work: tickets, provisioning automation, release support. Automation is the core skill you’ll build, because in a firm where agents absorb the repetitive majority of delivery work, the engineers who matter are the ones who automate the rest.
What you will do
- Work the operations tickets and project task queue with the DevOps team.
- Communicate with the rest of Engineering to roll out broad changes for customers.
- Automate operational and server provisioning workflows using AWS CloudFormation templates.
- Share responsibility for deploying releases and other operations maintenance.
- Improve operations infrastructure — Jenkins clusters, Bitbucket, monitoring tools (Consul), and metrics tools such as Graphite and Grafana.
- Provide operational support for the rest of the Engineering team.
- Help migrate our remaining dedicated hardware infrastructure to the cloud retiring hardware, not just racking new services.
What you need for this opportunity
- Conceptual understanding of version control systems (git), including branching and merging strategies.
- Conceptual understanding of cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP.
- Conceptual understanding of Snowflake.
- Conceptual understanding of or exposure to software build tools (Maven, Gradle) and continuous integration tools (Jenkins); must have supported Java-based applications in a production environment.
- Conceptual understanding of Linux environments and scripting languages — bash, Python, Groovy.
